What is Hells 7th layer like? Very, very, very bad for your party. Get out quickly. Tell your God you'll do a killer quest. Just get away.... :ghosted: |
| Yanagita Kunio06-10-06, 04:02 AM | Maladomini is the 7th layer, governed by Baalzebul, aka Triel the Fallen...unless you're DM's doing something homebrew. Short version--the layer's a polluted wasteland [think slag pits, strip mines, plus the least charming aspects of an industrial park] studded with incomplete, abandonned, and deteriorating cityscapes o'ertopped by a blood-red sky: the ruler is a fallen celestial driven to create a perfect city (in an act of twisted competition with his own celestial origin), yet never satisfied with the products of his underlings' labor. There's little formal government, and the layer is a refuge for baatezu and petitioners on the lam from other layers, hiding out in the many ruined cities. Being found by Baalzebul or his minions, though, means forced labor in the mines or on the construction of his latest city, Malagard. Sources: Planescape: Planes of Law--Baator Planescape: Guide to Hell 3.0 Manual of the Planes Could be fun; could be deadly. Hopefully the DM's personal bad times won't seal your fate. Hope you enjoy.... |
| kiesloth06-10-06, 04:06 AM | dear friend i had the exact problem with my DM too... only he used to kill a character a time, if he was in "one of those days"... If he keeps doing that you d better talk to him, i mean not for the game but to help the dude. No solution trying to solve all the stupidly high danger situations he puts u through, and trust me Hell is the place angry 'evil' DM's love. Any layer... :( |
| GothicDan06-10-06, 08:31 AM | When he says you to Nessus, that's the time to worry. While theoretically ANY trip to Hell, regardless of level (as in, regardless of 40th+ level, too) is potentially life-threatening, your current character levels seem to be - while not appropriate - slightly viable for the 7th layer. |

While theoretically ANY trip to Hell, regardless of level (as in, regardless of 40th+ level, too) is potentially life-threatening, your current character levels seem to be - while not appropriate - slightly viable for the 7th layer. Said bluntly, you MAY survive enough to find an escape gate. |
| BrianCritchley06-10-06, 01:48 PM | that being said I think you may be drawing conclusions that may be in correct if you figure that this was done souly because his girlfriend left him for another guy... it's quite possiable he planned to sned you guys plane hopping anyway, it's an intresting campaign twist and every DM tries it eventually |
| Yanagita Kunio06-10-06, 03:04 PM | Honestly, of all of the levels of Baator, you've probably got the best chance of moving around safely and discretely on the 7th, which is apparently pretty disorganized...what authority there is falls into the category of "press gang," "labor camp guard," "capo," and "overseer with large whip." Also, Maladomini poses the least environmental threat to mortals--pollution and giant-archdevil-slug poo. There's deadly cold of the 5th and 8th; the big rocks of the 6th; acid and poison on the 3rd,;and the progressively greater heat and fire threats of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th. The 9th's "millions-strong demon army" doesn't really count as an ecological threat, but it'll get you dead just as fast. |
| BrennonGoldeye06-10-06, 08:25 PM | As I said.....Run Away......   Every DM run's a "Kill the Characters" campaign at some point. Comes from dealing with apathetic or arrogant PC's, or possibly errant girlfriends. In this case if there is no obvious reason to be there(beat said Devil, win a way out), I say up up and run away!!! |
| Mr. Wilson06-11-06, 04:30 AM | Yep, the trip to Hell in my homebrew campaign was a punishment/redeeming quest after two of the PC's made two different deals with a devil to help them out. The quest given to them by a Diva was "To kill a Pit Fiend" and seeing as they were around 14th-16th level or so, they stood a reasonable chance if they caught one off guard. Unfortunately for them, they didn't learn their lesson and accepted a third "deal" with a devil....they devils agreed to let the party escape if they could beat a pit fiend of their choice. The party accepted, and wham they get to fight Bel, Lord of the First and Pit Fiend. They didn't make it. OTOH, they have never since accepted a deal from a devil or demon, so I chalk it up as a painful learning experience. I agree that the 7th is probably the "easiest" level to survive. Look for a gate and jump through at first oppurtunity. Good luck. |
| Mad Mage06-12-06, 01:56 AM | Our Dm who recently broke up with his girlfriend(she broke up with him, for some other dude) This is really what's caught my eye. My advice: Get a new DM, before things get even worse. This guy sounds like he's letting his real-life situations affect his DMing judgement. |
| Lily_Knight06-18-06, 05:39 AM | My advice: Get a new DM, before things get even worse. This guy sounds like he's letting his real-life situations affect his DMing judgement. Usually I am a lurker, but I have to say something in reply to this: DON'T push this guy away! The man just lost his g/f. Do you really want him to lose his regular D&D gaming too? In this instance, surely another player's feelings are more important then the immedient quality of your game. If the situation is bad (and you feel you HAVE to do something), just say that you think life might be easier for him if he became a player and another person assumed the role of DM. Sure, he is a poor DM if he lets OOG issues influence the table directly, but he is still human and still has feelings. Anyway, if you want OOG advice, post on the What's a Player to Do? forum. |
| BrianCritchley06-18-06, 02:42 PM | also we don't know this is the case at all, in fact my guess is the player is just assuming "ohh he broke up with his grilfriend so he's punishing us by sending us to hell" this assumption may be incorrect |
| SavevsStupidity06-19-06, 10:06 AM | What is Hells 7th layer like? In your case, its really really short... |
| JaiaDrottsingr06-20-06, 02:33 PM | Imagine the hell from the Secret of Monkey Island, except no lava! Fave quote Guybrush: I always knew there were mushrooms in hell. |
| JaiaDrottsingr06-20-06, 02:38 PM | Imagine the hell from the Secret of Monkey Island, except no lava! Fave quote Guybrush: I always knew there were mushrooms in hell. Ow, ow, ow. That was my brother. He is obsessed with Monkey Island and Star Wars. He was the first one to discover Dejarvik was in New Hope. On Topic Get. Out. Tell the party wizard that caused the spell that on behalf of *Insert Palidan's God here* you will unhonorably kill him if he does not set things aright. |
| Ohrer06-20-06, 07:56 PM | The seventh layer is Maladomini, I think it is the nicest layer of the Nine Hells of Baator... Is reigned by Belzebuth, a perfeccionist. I can't add anything on that Yaganita said. I belive it is lesser dangerous layer of the nine hells, but a Angry DM is a problem. Try to hide your alignment using magic, or using an artefact. This layer is full of devils especialiced in treason and deceit, a bad place for a paladin, all will try make you fall. Don't make stupid demostration divine powers (typical among Paladins). Luck! And remember, to break into a run is not a bad idea there. PD: Why are you going there? |

| JaiaDrottsingr06-22-06, 04:41 PM | We could surely all avoid scurvy if we eat an... orange. |
| Zsych06-25-06, 11:29 AM | I'm not sure why everyone is already terrorized. Let them at least reach Hell and then decide what needs to be done. The DM may well have something interesting planned. Wonder where in the 9 Hells, The Nameless One(PS Torment) is likely to be. Might be quite powerful by now(he died around the same time as Tyrial's fall.. one would think) |
| Mad Mage06-29-06, 03:17 AM | By the sound of that, I stand by my previous opinion and say find a new DM. This one you have seems to be too enthralled in lewd content & nigh-unto-impossible battles. |
| Duismante06-29-06, 08:03 AM | I would say your DM is projecting his anger onto your party. Somebody needs to talk to this dude, his scenario is rife with misogyny. Either get a new DM or get him some therapy. |
| WizO_Lyoness06-29-06, 10:33 AM | If you want to discuss details of the hells in Dnd, please start a thread with that question on the general boards. If that discussion involves a tiny bit of venting about a nameless DM, that's fine. However, detailed descriptions of that which you, yourself, feel is innapropriate in your game should never be posted on this site. We're trying to keep it PG 13 or thereabouts. Further posts of that kind any where on the site may result in warns for vulgar content. -WizO Lyoness |
