Another question regarding level adjustments [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-03-04, 03:44 AM My friends and I have been arguing this question for many weeks. The way i do level adjustments is if I have a +2 ECL character and we're all playing a 10th level campaign, I'm still 10th level but i need 13th level xp while everyone else needs 11th. My friend says no, i would still be a 10th level character but only have 8 levels of class levels. I can see how his option makes everyone equal, but I still dont think that is the way you do it. I tried reading about it in the manual and was still confused.

12-03-04, 03:55 AM I this race has a level adjustment (I think is what you are saying) of +2 and 8 bard levels this character will have xp as a 10th level character.
If this character had 1 level of a class then it would have xp as if it were 3rd level.
Now if this character has 1 class level and a +2 LA and had 4d8HD then it would have xp as if it were 7th level.

class level + LA + race HD= total ECL

Your wrong, your friends right. If they took it your way, you would always be ahead of the rest of the group. The other would catch up somewhat, but they would never gain XP to equal your ECL at any time.

At 8 class levels and +2 LA, you are at the same ECL as the rest of the group, and gain XP at the same time and amount as them.

12-03-04, 05:41 PM just think of it this way ur still a 10 lvl CHARACTER but only a 7th level say mage where they are (maybe) 10 lvl fighters so when everyone levels up to 11th level ur a 8th level whatever...if u went str8 up in one class this is only a simple example
