I think it is more like copper/silver/gold/platinum/electrum in terms of which is more valuable.

Useful, old info on Faerun Currency. Proof positive that you shouldn't get rid of your old stuff. (http://multimedia.klepp-hornmusikk.com/~leirbakk/rpg/adnd/equipment/adnd_equipment_moneyart.html)

Nope, electrum has always been between silver and gold pieces in D&D.

An Electrum piece has always been half a Gold piece, 1E and 2E were both consistent with that. And 3E dropped it completely.

"Some economies even use coins of different metals: electrum, iron, or even tin"

3.5 DMG, p. 140.

However that is Core, we are referring to Realms. And the Realms did have Electrum coins, or coins that incorporated Electrum in them, such as Harbor Moons from Waterdeep.

I highly recommend getting a copy of the Northern Journey Campaign Guide (http://www.vintyri.com/vintyri/Guide3E8.zip). It has a list of coinages (both official and unofficial) for almost everywhere in the Realms, along with exchange rates between nations.
