Any info on PC computer games set in the FR world?? [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-26-03, 10:53 AM I have played and enjoyed many (A)D&D PC games set in the Forgotten Realms. I especially liked the old games such as the Eye of the Beholder trilogy, Dungeon Hack, etc.

Does anyone have any information on other such games? - Are there any other games in the style of EoB and DH, - ie, where you build a part and explore dungeons, kill monsters etc? - Are there any newer games that perhaps use updated versions of D&D for creating the party etc.??

Any help is appreciated.

06-26-03, 11:31 AM I own and have played every single game on that list, but that absolutely NO ONE should buy is Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor. It's simply one of the worst pieces of software ever placed in a box.

Anything from Baldur's Gate on should run fine on modern PCs, and all of the other games are worth playing.

06-26-03, 11:36 AM Hmm, I think what I prefer are games from the 1st person perspective, like EoB, where you are your party and you controll them all simultaneously in real time, rather than where you see little men that you have to controll.

I'm not sure if this makes any sence :)

I cant get Menzoborenzan to run. I bought the Forgotten Realms Classic Gamefest pack, and it seems I need the manual for most of the games. Gee, genius not to sell the manual WITH them.:smirk:

the old NWN was like the gold box series games (Pool of radiance, curese of the azure bonds, etc.) except that you played online, and there were lots of people playing... think of it as a sort of proto-everquest style game with realy crappy graphics.

06-28-03, 11:26 AM That was a fun game. Got unbalanced at the end of "Nuts and Bolts", but it was fun. I didn't think it was even set in FR til now, though.

06-28-03, 06:03 PM If it's any help, Baldur's Gate is my joint favourite ever computer game. I highly recommend the whole series.

Icewind Dale is a bit more hack and slash but good fun.

Neverwinter Nights has many mod available for it because of the toolset and is well worht a look.

I've been advised to steer clear of the new Pool of Radiance.

Although it's not FR, Planescape: Torment is very story driven and is great on rp if that's your thing.

06-30-03, 10:16 AM If you want a good mix of storyline, roleplaying, and action, go for Baldur's Gate II. In the original, your party memebers would talk to each other/yell at each other/squabble and fight occassionally. Now, they yell at you.

If you're a Diablo fan, then Icewind Dale might be the direction you want to go. Not much roleplaying, but it's a nice dungeon crawl with beautifully designed dungeons.

I just have to say that while the graphics do not compare to todays interfaces, these 4 were classics. I had a blast playing all 4 of them.

07-04-03, 05:32 AM There is a new game set in Anauroch involving the shades coming out soon. I don't know if it's already in the US because i live in Europe.

And with a few exceptions everything older the Baldur's Gate can be found as part of the "Silver Anniversary" set that you can usually find pretty easily on ebay.

The silver anniversary comes in 2 flavors..

All the games in 1 box.
The games spread out in 3 different boxes.

So be aware of what you're buying.

Unfortunately, the Silver Anniversary isn't really sold anymore because they all require DOS.

Baldur's Gate and newer are just great fun and highly recommended.

But half the games required the manual to even run, and in thier wisdom, the distributers forgot the manuals. Think it was silver anyhow.
