Poiniard 07-27-03, 10:56 PM	In "After the Dragon" by Ed Greenwood in Dragon Annual #5, it says that Alusair would like to have an unofficial agency of the Crown to spy on the Crown's enemies in Westgate and Sembia- an agency independent of both the War Wizards and the Harpers. Again, while not an order of knighthood, this would make quite the campaign hook for a group of adventurers. BLACK DRAGON OF CORMYR Requirements: BAB: +6 Alignment: any non-evil Feats: Alertness or Track Skills: Knowledge (Cormyr) +4, Diplomacy or Intimidate +4, Spot +4 Special: An oath is required. Class skills: Climb, swim, jump, bluff, gather information, disguise, diplomacy, innuendo, sense motive, intimidate, search, listen, spot, knowledge (Cormyr). Armor and Weapon Proficiencies: No new armor or weapon proficiencies are gained by taking this class. BAB, saves and HD as rogue. Level 1: Favored Enemy, No Subdual Penalty Level 2: Bonus Feat Level 3: Unswerving Devotion Level 4: Bonus Feat Level 5: Change Self (1/day) Favored Enemy: You select a favored enemy from the following list of evil organizations which oppose Cormyr: the Church of Bane, the Cult of the Dragon, the Iron Throne, the malaugrym, ghazneths, the Red Wizards, the Zhentarim, the Fire Knives or the shadovar. This ability works exactly like the favored enemy ability of the ranger class. Bonus Feat: Select one feat from the following list: Street Smart (FRCS), Smooth Talk (FRCS), Thug (FRCS), Remain Conscious (MotW), Improved Trip (PHB), Throw Anything (SaF), Dirty Fighting (SaF), Track (PHB), Alertness (PHB), Improved Initiative (PHB), Toughness (PHB), Skill Focus: Knowledge (Cormyr). Unswerving Devotion: You gain a +2 saving throw bonus against Enchantment spells or effects. This bonus stacks with the racial bonus of elves and half-elves. No subdual penalty: Can use a melee weapon that deals normal damage to deal subdual damage instead without suffering the usual -4 penalty to his attack roll. Change Self: You can use the change self spell once per day as a spell-like ability. *** In my own campaign, this group (the PCs) is known as the Black Dragons. The Black Dragons are run by Glarasteer Rhauligan, who answers directly to Alusair. Since the Harper schism, Glarasteer has been looking for a more stable organization to call his own, and is on the verge of leaving the Harpers altogether in favor of the Black Dragons. My Black Dragons have already rooted out a traitor among the War Wizards, captured a Pretender among the nobility in Eveningstar, and foiled a Fire Knives plot to assassinate the infant Prince Ascendant. They've had run-ins with the Queen's Guard and are seen as little more than ruffians by the "brat's bodyguard." They are very much frowned upon by the Purple Dragons, and a rivalry is beginning to develop there. This is in part because they’ve willingly had dealings with Semmemon of Darkhold and the thieves guild of Marsember in order to better complete Alusair’s missions- the end justifies the means for the Black Dragons. Most of the Black Dragons came from questionable backgrounds, to put it mildly. According to Lhaspeera, “the Black Dragons were founded when Glarasteer went into the prison in Suzail in the dark of night with a Writ of Pardon from the Regent and came out with a hand-picked group of scoundrels.” Despite their somewhat shady reputation, the Black Dragons get things done, and their fame is spreading. Recently, the Regent sponsored a medieval-style tournament to demonstrate to foreign enemies that Cormyr can still muster some formidible military strength. A Black Dragon, a commoner, won this tournament by defeating the best of the nobles and the Purple Dragons on the field. More than one noble house is now plotting a way to discredit these upstart Black Dragons. Alusair found it impossible to keep their existence a secret from her closest counselors. Word of their exploits was already getting around at court, even before the tournament. That's not to say the Black Dragons are common knowledge in the taverns of Suzail. Only a fairly small number of nobles and courtiers really know they exist. A lot of their mystique is based on rumor and shrouded in mystery. Glarasteer is having to spend more and more of his time dealing with rumors at court, usually by spreading some misinformation of his own. Fortunately, most of the members have been able to keep their identities hidden, even if the existence of the organization is no longer a secret. Lhaspeera is not in the Black Dragons. In fact, she sees them as "loose cannons" and wishes Alusair would disband them, or fold them into the Purple Dragons or War Wizards. Basically, Lhaspeera just dislikes their methods, not their aims. She wouldn't dare actively oppose them, though. She was taken down a notch when the Black Dragons uncovered the traitorous War Wizard, too.

Poiniard 07-27-03, 11:37 PM	I like it Poiniard. Mind if I steal it? If you mean use it in your own campaign, please do. I'd love to hear how it turns out. I also have a Wyvern-Rider and a Drowslayer PrC, but the Black Dragon is my favorite.
