| Shar Baenre12-26-03, 09:43 PM | I saw something on here about someone wishing they would make the "Necronomicon" as the next mature sourcebook. This got me thinking that it would be cool if they did it, but based in FR since there are so many undead wizards, the shades, and the origin of the dracolich... I was just thinking that it could be cool, with like a rundown of these undead power figures, like Larloch and Tzas, and maybe custom spells by them for necromancers to get. Anyway, just a thought... any opinions? |
| Dargoth12-26-03, 09:58 PM | There was a 2ed Book called the complete book of Necromancers that had an FR adventure in it |

I mean, I remember reading (in 2nd edition) of some form of undead that is created when a mage casting contingency is killed by fire magic. How often is that really gonna happen? |
| Israfel66612-27-03, 05:40 AM | IMO, the Book of Vile Darkness had enough stuff on undead for my liking. And since the Book of Exalted Deeds gave us rules for good/neutral undead ("deathless", yeah... whatever), my graveyard needs are satisfied for the present :D |
| Shar Baenre12-28-03, 02:03 AM | I agree that the idea of undead as a whole is a bit overdone, but I still think that a Realms based version would be cool, almost like Lords of Darkness. But yeah, I can see how you guys would think its overdone as is. |

(er..kinda...well, maybe not...but still!) try walking a mile in their boney, disease-ridden, decayed feet. life - or unlife, rather - would suck as an undead. im sure they're angry that there are so many living around! i mean, geez, theyre everywhere! yeah, thats the *real* problem: all of these healthy creatures walking around with their accursed sentience and functional metabolism. who needs a constitution and intelligence score anyway! the world may be against you, undead, but ill support you to the end!:D |
| The Deep Dark12-30-03, 05:56 PM | I just wanted to add a few cents to this pile of copper. I think that a wizard falling victim to fire magic while casting contingecny could happen often. think about it. you are a wizard and you are casting spells to make a magic item and you have a fireball set to blast after you say this word or that word or whatever. you go to finish and something happens to you and you need to make a concentraion check and you screw it up and BAM fried wizkers. also I think they are using it as a base. say you want to creat lightning undead. now Im not sure on the exact facts cause I have not seen the undead in question. (no viledarkness for me.) I personaly think that WoC should have the harpers get off thier lazy rears and start doing something about all the evil that is taking Toril over. |
| primemover00312-30-03, 06:12 PM | It was either the Effigy or the Flameskull... both cool undead. |
| Neblin of the Green12-31-03, 03:58 AM | I've always found that the amount of undead options over satisfy the market. And sometimes I find that the variety is building on existing ideas and modifying them very slightly. Such as revenant/ curst - ways to similar for my liking. As a DM, I use undead with energy drain, for balancing out overpowerful characters. A Nerconomicon, would be good if it didn't increase the number of available undead, but rather expands on the creation of undead, via certain spells or the process of becoming a lich. Spell components, processes, phylactery construction etc. For example in the Underdark expansion they talk about the one of the boneyard liches, waiting to the process to complete. ?????? |

I agree with you, and this is more what I was aiming for... something dealing in more detail with them, rather than creating more, kinda like the Draconomicon just did with some old favorites. But yeah, it could talk about the histories of certain known liches and shades, the processes they took to become what they are, and where their phylacteries or life essences may be hidden. But the thing that really made me think of all this was the fact that there are so few necro spells, and I thought that in a land where most of the power-cats are undead, there should be some campaign specific focus on that as well. |
