Inspired_Mage 12-08-05, 10:12 AM	Hi All, I have what may sound like a daft question. I know it would prob depend on what race it is but in the Underdark, what is most commonly used as a material for making doors aside from stone? On the surface they would use wood which comes from trees and I think there may be just a SMALL shortage of those in the Underdark. Would they maybe use materials from some form of mushroom or other fungi? I suppose the same question would apply to tables?
Old Sage 12-08-05, 11:12 AM	Wood and timber products are likely not *that* rare. We know that most Underdark races trade, to some degree, with those races in the Realms Above. Wood and other manufactured wood-based items are probably imported by many Underdark communities and used to construct fortifications, accessways, and tunnel support structures. I've always liked the idea of fungi-trunks or giant mushroom stalks being used as building materials though...

Alac Luin 12-08-05, 11:38 AM	In the Underdark book it does indeed talk about giant mushrooms being harvested as "wood" like construction material. Instead of the sun, it grows with energy from the Farazess (sp?).
Bleys74 12-08-05, 11:46 AM	As an Arb person, I thought that I'd make my first post to this board on an Arb question. The fungus is called Zurkhwood, and is one of only a few sources of lumber that grows in the underdark, though I would imagine that a great deal of trade for lumber exisits too. Also, I could see the spiteful Drow rising from the Underdark just to clear cut trees from Elven woods to get back at those fility surface dwellers. :D
