| Alisttair12-11-03, 12:45 PM | i only found screensavers and wallpapers. ant desktop themes out there??????????????????????? anywhere??????????? |
| Wooly Rupert12-11-03, 01:03 PM | You know, that is a good point. There's a million and one people out there making wallpapers of anime, cars, or models. And yet, I don't recall ever seeing a single page devoted to FRPG wallpapers... There's the ones on the Wizards page, and that's it. |
| Alisttair12-12-03, 12:18 AM | There are the D&D 3E desktop themese but I want FR!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| Ion12-12-03, 03:47 AM | The first result you get if you search google for "forgotten realms desktop theme" is This (screensaver.lunarpages.com/dt/f/Forgotten_Realms.html) |
| Wooly Rupert12-12-03, 10:47 AM | Be warned! I clicked on the above link, and d/l'ed the theme... It appears that the software package installs some extra stuff, and I'm fairly certain that some of it is spyware/adware. Edit: Yup, it wanted to also install something called Bonzi Buddy, and according to this page on Symantec's website (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.bonzi.html), 'tis adware. It also dropped in a couple other files that I didn't recognize, so I nixed those... And I didn't notice any icons in that theme, either -- but then, it said it was missing some files. |
| Alisttair12-12-03, 12:18 PM | Then what do i do if that thing installs crap along with the good stuff? |
| Wooly Rupert12-12-03, 12:30 PM | Originally posted by Alisttair Then what do i do if that thing installs crap along with the good stuff? Well, I won't guarantee this will work, but it should... Install the theme, then run some anti-adware/anti-spyware program to get rid of the bad stuff. That should take care of it. I use two anti-adware/anti-spyware programs: Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoft.de/) and Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/). Both are freeware, and both have a lot of fans. I usually run both once a week. What one doesn't catch, the other one does. They both look for programs, cookies, registry entries, and other bits of evil, and nix them quite readily at command. Truly, I don't think it's worth the effort. But that's just me. Either way, running those programs periodically is a good idea. I once saw a Pentium 4 2GHz machine running at a crawl because of all the adware and spyware that was running on it. |
