| Zsych12-31-05, 05:34 AM | Just read it. (If you intend to read it you might not want to read this) . . . . . . . . . . Anyway, at the end of the story, Enteri kills a Shade, and in the process takes on some of the shadow-stuff that a Shade is made of. And Jarlaxle says that only time will tell what abilities Enteri can derive from it. I wonder if this is RA Salvatore's plot device for keeping Enteri in the game(and possibly allowing him to work with the Shades at some point... his talents would be useful to them). As Drizzt's rival, his time was limited due to the fact that Drizzt would live several hundred years, while Enteri would soon be out of his prime, but if he becomes a Shade, with the average 700 years or so lifespan, then there may yet be stories where Enteri will play a significant part. ... Of course, i'm still not sure what the creators/authors really intend to do with the Shades as regards the future of the realms. Personally, i would expect the Shades' return was the beginning to creating a completely new face of Toril at some point in the future. (Or they could just become a class of baddies similar to the Wizards of Thay, never using their Netherese potential) |

| Zsych12-31-05, 12:04 PM | Hmm... well, this thread isn't to critique/review a novel, or to suggest improvements to a novel. Of course, i cannot say that i am currently developing a game with a Shade Enteri as a character, but i'm sure that someone, possibly someone working in the future of Toril will find that variation of Enteri to be interesting(should the players be intended to come across Enteri or criminals serving the Shades). If Enteri does become a complete Shade, then a 100 years in the future of Faerun, he may be running a guild for the Shades(something, as it happens, the book says that he cannot expect to manage in any city at the moment) ... And where you add Enteri, you may also be intending to add Drizzt :) (then again, maybe not) |
| Lord Karsus01-03-06, 12:38 AM | -I agree with your thinking. Entreri absorbing the essence of a Shade was probably done in order to boost his lifespan. The guy was getting old, and hanging out with a bunch of Drow, who will live centuries longer, probably doesn't help one's self-esteem either. I doubt that Entreri will become allied with the Shadovar, since he did kill one of them. I do not believe that the Shadovar would look too kindly on that fact (if they somehow found out). -As for how the Shadovar are going to change Toril? Well, we are just going to have to wait for Mr. Kemp to finish penning The Twilight War trilogy. He himself has said that the Shadovar will play a signifigant role. June 2006 seems so far away... |
