It depends on who's wearing the tighter underwear.

Entreri would more than likely win in a FAIR, 1-on-1 match between the two. Yes, Obould is stronger, but Artemis is faster, smarter, not to mention he has Charon's Claw and his life-stealing dagger...So I would put my platinum on Entreri. But if Obould got one of his fireballs to hit our dexterous assassin friend (Entreri) then he might have a chance. And remember Artemis is considered the second-best fighter (not as in the class) with only Drizzt in front of him.[FONT=Book Antiqua][SIZE=4]

Artemis Entreri or Obould Many-Arrows?

Whilst I could ask you why you have nothing better to do than spend your time musing over an unlikely conflict between two imaginary characters - which by the way doesn't and was never going to have a definitive answer - I won't do that. What I will do as someone who corresponds with Ed regularly, helps out on numerous FR products and is a recently-published Dragon Magazine author (which should illuminate you as to the gravitas of my replying to you and tipping you off to the fact that my opinion and thoughts on this topic have significant weight) is tell you my take on your query:

Artemis. He's named after an ancient Greek deity. Hands down winner.

WHOA WHOA WHOA!

Perhaps Drizzt and Entreri are 1 and 2 in SWORDPLAY...

But I think there are three people in all the Realms that could beat them, given the circumstances.

Pwent, easily, if he was drunk or angry...

Bruenor Battlehammer, if he has just lost a child. (Try to remember, Bruenor defied logic by bashing through Baenre's magical shields because he got so enraged at the sight of Wulfgar's killer.)

And Wulfgar, if he has lost a family member, or is about to. (In the cave near Cryshal Tirith up on the Sea of Moving Ice, Wulfgar, a MORTAL, actually restrains Errtu, a BALOR. Thats impossible, you know.)

Ed Greenwood gives an extensive list of people who are better swordsmen than Drizzt or Entreri.

(And no, none of them listed so far are Elves that we know of.)

And Balors have a STR score just like everyone else.

And Salvatore can break the rules as much as he wants, since he's an author.

-Yeah, he is. But, Obould has many arrows...

-True, so now this is just a contest of who has more arrows. We already know that Obould has 'many'. That isn't a very concrete number. And, Artemis? Who knows...?

-I guess it's back to being a stalemate...

Obould as he is now would win in a fight as he much enhanced by his god. The human just has a knife. And if atrs did get the upper hand I wouldn't put it past Obould to think his way out of it, maybe offer him a deal.

I'll just jump in here as I like both characters. I think I'll tackle this from a world perspective and not a game/rules one (as much as I love RAS's writing, he puts the rules in the backseat).

Easy Answer : Neither because we do not know how, why, when, where, and under what circumstances.

Long Answer open for Endless Debate:

Artemis Entreri :
Positives = Skilled Assassin, Charon's Claw, ruby-hilted dagger, exceptionally skilled at swordplay, skilled with diguises. Friend/employer is Jarlaxle who has considerable resources if he is willing to assist Entreri.
Negatives = Seems to be currently suffering from a lack of direction. Also, in the past as been distracted by his attempt to prove his superiority to Drizzt Do'Urden.

Obould Many-Arrows :
Positives = Cunning, vision and direction, flaming greatsword, power infusion from Gruumsh. Has a vertible army of orcs at his disposal dispite recent loses. Frost giant ally who seems to now generally fear him.
Negatives = Stretching his people too far, orcs are warriors not settlers (similar to what happened to Wulfgar's people). Recovering from a recent defeat in taking Mithril Hall.

Okay, now for the answer though this is getting more and more like the debates many people rage on about their favorite comic book heroes. The key is in how you tell the tale, here are two examples that I mean to be very brief.

Scenario 1 = Entreri for reasons unknown sneaks up on Obould without rousing a single strand of hair on the mighty orc's neck. The assassin slits the orc's throat. Bye bye orc. (Will Gruumsh raise him from the dead? Zomg!)

Scenario 2 = Entreri engages Obould amidst a whirlwind battle pitting the orcs against some unnamed force. Entreri seems to have the upper hand until the orc calls to his aid all his brethren around him. The assassin is killed trying to flee the scene as a veritable sea of orcs ungulf him. (Will Jarlaxle raise him from the dead? Zomg!)

It is my goal to hopefully point out that who you, the dreamer, want to win will invariably win. Moreover, I doubt the only source who can decide this issue with any true authority gives a fruitcake about it. Let this not discourage you, however, as such lines of thought can lead to very interesting tangental lines of logic. So I guess what I'm saying is that this topic is stupid and intriguing but I like it anyway.

If this battle were ever done in a novel, RAS would more than likely write it, and I would hope and pray that he'd kill off Obould rather than Entreri. As characters, I think Entreri has more to do in his future, whereas Obould exists with a gigantic red crosshair trained on his face. ;)

Hmmm... Artemis will win. He got enough wits to defeat/kill Obould.

Who would I like to win? Artemis Entreri..

Who do I logically think would win? Obould simply because from what I read he took drizzt to task and would have won if not for the typical novel curve ball..

True but Obould had help from his god.

That's not even close to cheating in the realms...

What does arts have left to do in the future besides get older or turn into a shade? Obould has to try to build a stable Orc empire that can coexist with it's neighbors which I'd like to see detailed in books and game.

That is the reason why I like Obould, he is dreaming for a nation for his people and is trying to accomplish it by the only means he knows, conquest. If memory serves, there was an orc leader in the past who tried to do such a thing but eventually the orc's natural aggression and numerous enemies overwhelmed them. I suspect Obould's nation will meet a similiar fate. But an orc can dream...an orc can...dream.

the thing is Obold KNOWS that if he suceeds he's going to be "Charlegmange" this is why he wants to build a alrge Kingdom, so that when he does die that the splinters are alrge eneugh not to immediatly be wiped out, in effect he knows his empire while die with him but he hopes the sucessor states can last
