| bratt_n04-12-04, 02:10 PM | Before reading ask yourself: Did I buy Baldur's gate 1-2, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale 2, Fallout 1-2-Tactics e. t. c. ? If yes, I sincerely thank you and bid not to read the following statement, if no, read and atone for your crime: Maybe this message is a little off the address, but since all of you own PCs and have a measure of acquaintance with the world of the multiverse, I think I can rightfully accuse you in committing a murder of Black Isle studios. The article of one of our local gaming related mags about Icewind Dale II was - "The end of Infinity (I mean the "Infinity" engine)". I won't forgive you, and americans especially, for not seeing Planescape: Torment 2, or whatever game it could be if only you had showed more buying activity. My homeland (see location in my profile) is off limits and doesn't influence the gaming industry for it's impossible to buy a licensed game that costs 50 - 100$ when your total month salary is a little higher that 100$ (your eyes didn't fool you, it's really equivalent to one hundred bucks). But you with your overwhelming living standards, how could you allow that? Shame on you! Killers. |
| Cunning Linguist04-12-04, 02:26 PM | The Infinity engine was a great engine while it lasted. But time moves on, and 3D was becoming overmighty. Games like Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights and Dungeon Siege would not make Planescape: Torment 2 sell alot. Even the when IWD2 came out, there was lots of sarcasem going around for using a 4 year old engine. Think about how people would react if someone used the Half Life Engine to make a new first person shoot them up, now that games like FarCry has hit the marked, and Doom3 and HalfLife2 soon to hit the marked. RPG has a slower aging then your avrage FPS, but that does not mean that it does not age. Would you buy a game that looked like Final Fantasy 1? http://www.gameforms.com/games/playstation/ff12/media/screens/ff12.jpg or would you buy a game that looked like Final Fantasy XI? http://www.gamerankings.com/screens4/555735/2.jpg Time moves on, deal with it. |
| bratt_n04-12-04, 02:33 PM | It's not the point, you low foreheaded monkey! There is no Black Isle anymore and even if they make lots of new uber game engines, it won't return it. You have committed a crime and don't even realize it, just as I thought. |
| Shodo Panda04-12-04, 02:42 PM | Again tell me how I playing a pen & paper game commited a crime by not buying a computer game. You're telling me that everyone on this board should buy a computer game just because it uses the same universe as the PEN & PAPER game. I hope you are buying every Forgotten Realms book out there because if WotC goes broke it will be your fault. |
| DrunkRockPunk04-12-04, 02:43 PM | low foreheaded monkey? |
| Baron Phylos04-12-04, 02:49 PM | It was the french btw. The americans and canadians involved in all this all answer to the various head offices in France. Black Isle was shut down by: Interplay Interplay operates under the umbrella of: Titus(french company) And right now, the D&D video games rights are owned by Atari(also a french company) Oh, and don't blame all the french, it was just a small bunch of rich, jerk french dudes(like the Marovingian in the Matrix sequels I bet) and their american CEO pawns. |

Black Isle got shut down for making crappy games like Dark Alliance and Lionheart and for using the same engine for over 4 years. If any other company did this, they would be shut down. Besides, it's not the company that makes great games, its the people who work with the games, and they got jobs at other game making studios. Start a rant about how SSI got screwed over, now that was a big thing. |
| Another Gnome04-12-04, 03:56 PM | As Baron Phylos said, Atari currently has all the rights to publishing D&D computer games, and rumor has it that recently Atari also secured the rights to AD&D stuff formerly held by Black Isle Studios (or rather, Interplay). Thus, while Torment 2 may still never come out, the fate of BIS has no relevance in the matter. As for the "low foreheaded monkey", I believe the proper term in English way of speech would be simply "lowbrow". Not that discussing either issue has any relevance to what these boards are for. |
| WizO_BigSister04-12-04, 05:35 PM | OK we all know that Black Isle is no more. This is not going to change. This debate isn't really on topic for these boards which are part of a site dedicated to the Pen and Paper D&D game. Besides accusations and insults are not welcome here. For all of these reasons I'm going to close this thread. |
