| jinat06-01-05, 06:49 AM | Im about to start the module Attack on Myth Drannor. However according to the module the computer game of the same name is linked. Can anyone tell me where i san get a good story synopsis of the CRPG. Im not talking walkthrough or just a single paragraph here. Thanku |
| Alac Luin06-01-05, 02:55 PM | Adventurers travel from Phlan from the site of an old “pool of radiance” to Myth Drannor to help a group of besieged heroes. Due to a “time laps” effect on the portal, the adventurers arrive long after the scene they viewed through the portal. They find out and continue the quest the heroes were on. A new guardian of the Mythal is established (it is now a female elf cleric of Mystra). Then the heroes battle the Dracolich at the new “pool of radiance” FYI: There is also a novel written following the computer game line. |
| jinat06-02-05, 06:01 AM | Wow - thankx Alac. How does the new pool of radiance come to be? Whats a gaurdian of a Mythal, how is one chosen and who was the old one? Thankx |
| Alac Luin06-02-05, 11:11 AM | OK, a Pool of Radiance is a magical oddity. They form and disapear at different times. The one in Phlan formed, was taken over by an evil spirt that bound it to the area it wass in Phlan. When this evil spirit was destroyed, it dried up and went away. (This was in the oricinal computer game "pool of radiance". A very old school game, but fun) The Mythal Guardian that I spoke about in an undead creature that gave thier life to protect, and fix the mythal. If you are a player in this adventure, I don't want to give any more spoilers then I already have. I will say, I believe you will meet all the charicters in this adventure. I also can't remember names and such ;) |
| jinat06-02-05, 03:19 PM | Im gonna DM it ! Please dont hold back the spoilers. Bascally before starting the module i wanted to have a session based on the video game plotline as a prequel. Thankx for all the info. If u ahve more please tell |
| Alac Luin06-03-05, 08:18 PM | The thing is, the module takes place at the same time the PC game does. (they are relatively played out simultaneous) As the characters are searching for the Dracolich's phylactery, The Hero’s of the PC game are searching for the dracolich. Both games deal with the Cult of the Dragon. The PC game is like one big dungeon crawl, and there are some Drow involved that are opposed to Cult of Dragon. Then there are a lot “unrelated” encounters, orcs, hobgoblins, a naga, and a few other things to make the game last a few hours. I'll see what I can remember. In the battle with the Deep Spawn, a Mythal Ghost appears during that time stop effect. That Mythal Ghost is of the original “Mythal Guardian”, a Baelorn I believe. I’m not sure if in the PnP adventure you meet who is to be the new “mythal guardian”, but it would be in the temple to mystra that I think the adventure brings you to. (I know the adventure involves a shrine to mystra, but that’s not it. If the PC’s meet this character, her current state would be a ghost, not a mythal ghost, but a real undead ghost. I have not played through this adventure, so I’m not that familiar with it. I’ll also state that “mythal guardian” is my term, I don’t think that is what they are called, but it does describe their function. To give a history lesson to the PC’s traveling through Phlan and learning of the last Pool of Radiance. The main creature was known as Tyranthraxus, The Possessing Spirit. From “Villain’s Lore book” “The last recorded appearance of the Possessing Spirit was 1340 DR, in conjunction with the legendary Pool of Radiance. Tyranthraxus inhabited multiple bodies during these events, but he spent a great deal of time in the body of a bronze dragon. When the heroes were on the verge of victory over him, he leapt into a different body and dove into the Pool, using its magic to teleport away.” After this the pool dried up, the people of Phlan kept guards on the area it was. (That is where the adventures of the PC game start out.) Hope this helps. :D |
| jinat06-05-05, 04:22 AM | It does indeed. Thanks a lot Alac. Now if i could just push it a bit more and ask one more question if you dont mind. On the website of the gme: they mention a blind elf cleric Beriand. What was his role on all of this? |
| Alac Luin06-05-05, 08:02 PM | Beriand lives in a hollowed out tree (sorry, ATM I can't place where it is located). To enter the tree, one needs to first have a "word of entry" then a rope appears, pulling the rope opens up a hidden doorway that will allow entry. He is friendly to the heroes of the pc game. He lives with a female elf druid/ ranger that can join the heroes of the PC game(if there is an open slot). These two are the only survivors of a larger expedition. They felt that the two of them could not escape Myth Drannor by themselves, basically getting trapped in the city. He offers a few bits of info, speaks about a prophesy that the heroes are fulfilling, and offers his healing services. Since he is blind, he will not leave the tree. It could be nice place to take shelter. Only thing is, I don't think the PnP adventure takes you into that area. You are not pushing, most of us here are happy to help when we can. :) Just ask, as long as it's Realms related, someone will answer. |
| Kuje3106-05-05, 08:04 PM | Since this always gets asked. The stats for the sword of Lathander can be found: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/fx20010627c I also threw that link into my FR FAQ found in the FAQ section. |
| Alac Luin06-05-05, 08:11 PM | Since this always gets asked. The stats for the sword of Lathander can be found: At first, I thought this was posted to the wrong thread. Kuje is being really helpful, answering questions that haven't even been asked yet!!! :D |

| jinat06-07-05, 11:31 AM | You guys are the best. OK then how does the sword of Lathander fit into all of this? And also why does the official site mention the Guanlets of Moander ? And who is Magli hi (the man who eats Human flesh)? Im trying to peace together as much as I can before Friday – so I have a game ready. |

The Sword is from the 3e module but it was left unstat'd in the module. The guantlets.... I forgot what they did but they should be in the module. I can look them up if needed. No idea who Magli is. :) |
| Alac Luin06-07-05, 04:41 PM | EDIT: This first part is erroneous, see below. I originally thought this was Malgi Hi, I left this here becouse I already typed it out and posted it. :) "it is a Naga that has a fetish for necklaces. It’s not just a hack-n-slash encounter; you actually get involved in a lengthily discussion with him. He locked himself in a room; one of the only ways to get him out is to offer him an amulet of protection, or some other necklace, when he comes out he attacks." Gauntlets of Moander I believe got their start in another PC game that took place in Myth Drannor. I can’t remember the name of that game, but it dealt with Moandar, Moandar worshipers, Myth Drannor, and I believe the Hero Organization- Knights of Myth Drannor. I played this a loooooong time ago. Well, in the PC game PoR: Attack on Myth Drannor, the adventurers finally meet one member of the group they came to help (the ones they saw in the portal from Phlan). He is a member of the Knights of Myth Drannor (could be wrong, but I do think he is one of the Knights), he has this artifact. I don’t know all the abilities of these gloves, but it needs to stay with the adventurers of the PC game. They are used destroy, by drying up the Pool or Radiance. |

Hmm either the original Pool of Radiance game, which is Ruins of Adventure for the sourcebook that ties in.... or Curse of the Azure bonds, which is the name for the game, module, and 1st novel. |

It would be the "Curse of the Azure Bonds" game that the Gauntlets of Moandar are from, I didn't like this one so much. The original Pool of Radiance game was set completely in Phlan. I played this one over 10 times. :embarrass Just found my strategy guide for the "Pool of Radiance: Attack on Myth Drannor". Beriand and Faeril (the female elf I Mentioned EDIT: I said she was a Druid ranger, she is actually a 5 fighter 9 cleric), live in a section of Myth Drannor referred to as “Stillwater Ruins”. I Think it’s somewhere in the North central part of the city. I’m not certain. If your there, there is also a Halfling merchant named “Nottle” working out of a wagon. Why is there a Halfling merchant in the middle of a ruined city? Who knows. :D He is a scavenger, finding lost magic and stuff. Your group can encounter him anywhere in the city (in the PC game, you rescue Nottle from the Cult of the Dragon at some point. , I think he is a 7th level thief.) Magli hi is a human that leads a Lizard folk tribe (rogue 8 sorcerer 10) . I don’t remember him. Sorry I got that wrong earlier. The Naga I mentioned in the earlier post is a dark naga named Preybelish. |
| Alac Luin06-07-05, 06:45 PM | I also mentioned Drow, if you don’t have it, they are from a clan calling themselves "Freth" (as a house name). The female elf ghost that became the Mythal Guardian is named "Anorrweyn Evensong", she is in the shrine of Mystra in an area referred to as "Nightingale Court" The old guardian of the Mythal I believe is Miroden Silverblad. I’m now better suited to answer questions about the PC game now. Any other questions list them, or any others that I haven’t answered well, ask or re ask them, gotcha covered. |
| Alurvelve06-08-05, 01:04 AM | I'm about to run through that game again on my compter, so if there are some things you would like to know I can post them as I go along. Also if you have not checked out the web site for the game you should do so, it might have some usefull things for you. |
| jinat06-08-05, 01:55 PM | OK - ive gone through a couple of walkthroughs - but they dont realy give any info on the story. Ive pieced a bit now - from here and there and this thread mainly. But i still cant piece together the essential important events that should take place. OK in a nutshell this is what i have so far. Once the novice adventuring party enters Myth Drannor they discover they are too late and invesigate. They find Beriand who tells them whats going on. The Party then enters hall of stone - there they fight a Lifespring Gaurdian. ? why and what exactly is a lifespring gaurdian i cant figure out. Somehow (im guessing due to the actions of the party) a new mythal gaurdian is appointed. What happened to the old one and what were the circumsances that made it so, i have no idea. Finally the Dracolich is destroyed and using the guanlets of Moander the pool is closed. Am i waay off? and can someone fill in the gaps. Dont need detailed account just the essentials. |
| Alac Luin06-08-05, 02:19 PM | I'm having a hard time finding info on the lifespring guardian, I'll look further when I have a chance. The ritual that allows Anorrweyn Evensong to assume the role of guardian happens off screen, but the heroes of the game make it possible (getting her skull to her ghost allows her to manifest in the present, blah blah). The old guardian, well, since he is dead already (he is an undead as the game starts) just finally dies, the guardian needs to be an undead, so that’s why the ghost is able to take up the mantle. You pretty much have it, there is very little about the PC game that would have a direct consequence on the module, or the other way around. |
| Alurvelve06-09-05, 01:19 AM | There is a merchant halfling named Nottle that they meet. If I remember right the Lifespring Guardian was some kind of golem. Maybe a Huge Iron Golem, not shure. The old Mythal Guardian was a Baelnorn, which is a good elven lich. There are several levels of dungeons that you adventure through, as well as Castle Cormanthor, and some above ground areas. The main bad guys you run into are the Cult Of The Dragon, Undead, Orcs, Lizardfolk, Drow, Gargoyles, Dragonkin. When do you plan on starting the adventure. If it is not for a while, it will give me time to go through the game, and I can right click on the main people I run into to find out their classes and levels. |
| Alac Luin06-09-05, 03:23 PM | I finally came across the "lifespring Guardian" It is a Golem. You have to defeat it to get some water works working again, so some fountains start flowing to make a specter happy (a female elf named Elena). There is also an organization called the Silver Fire, there are humans and Guardian Nagas involved, and they help out the heroes of the PC game. Anther tribe of Drow, using the name Kilsek. And there is a the Sharpstick Clan of Ormyrr (a giant slug like creature, may trade magic items if you befriend them, Monsters of Faerun, I think) leader of clan is named Retha, two members of clan named Flem (chatty), and Geb (got lost, heroes of PC game help save him from the CotD). |
| jinat06-10-05, 08:32 PM | OK Just had my first session. The players explored the stilwater region, had encounters with Orcs and Lizardfolk. Met Berand and Faeril, went into cave complexes - met Geb, an Ormyrr, Battled Orcs and their leader Zud. Now basically im not sure but i thing that skims through chapter one of the game (im assuming its divided that way). Now what i want to know is what is the essential thing in each chapter, story progression wise. And guys i know ive said it before but i will say it again THankx a Lot ! |
| Alac Luin06-21-05, 05:25 PM | I do hope this game is going well for you. I want to say asking us to post a step by step / chapter by chapter walk through feels a little to much like copyright infringement. Not only on the game but the written strategy guide. Someone else suggested looking for an on-line walk through, that would be the best bet. Any specific questions arise, come back and ask. :) |
| jinat06-23-05, 05:59 AM | The game is going good - Im managing thankx. I didn’t really mean like a walkthrough - more like a story synopsis - more along the lines of "some time during the game you’ll battle Malag Hi, Malag Hi is a human sorcerer working for the cult. He looks like a man wearing tattered robes (i don’t know I’m just saying), and voice over had a guttural accent. You know details like stats and such I can make on my own- placement of magical items do not have to be exact as the game nor do the dungeon maps and each every single encounter, just the important parts - and even those just in the context of story/fluff so I know how to DM the scenes and encounters. Sorry I wasn’t clear. Non the less its going good, there are two parties running around in Myth Drannor, one is going through the Video game plotline the other (DMed by a friend) is running through the module, the events are happening simultaneously. Its hard work requiring much research and coordination but it seems to be paying off. Had three games so far. Last left them in the dungeons of Castle Cormanthor where theyve just rescued Athan. Alac, Alurvelve, Kuje13 you guys have been a great help, ill let you guys know how it all turned out in the end. |
| Kuje3106-23-05, 11:15 AM | Alac, Alurvelve, Kuje13 you guys have been a great help, ill let you guys know how it all turned out in the end. Groovy. :) |
| Alac Luin06-23-05, 12:07 PM | A few highlights from the CG. Heroes destroy a "gate" that undead keep coming through. In some deap basement. They gain magic items from a dwarven Ghost from his workshop. They also gain information from an eccentric undead elf that was a powerful Diviner in life, and his talking skull partner. The skull was a rival in life, but they became friends. This was in a special building shaped like a sleeping dragon, it is also hidden from view, so they would need to know where to look. One thing I remember that I loved, and I can be silly, the heroes travel through a secret door kill a wizard, when leaving the room they run into some hobgoblin mercenary guards. If the heroes mention they killed the wizard, the hobgoblins walk off. If someone stops them, they reply something like "We were hired to protect wizard, if he is dead, nothing to protect, no need to fight." I don't have my books now, so I don't have names, just off the top of my head. This whole 2 campaigns at once does sound like a lot of work. Good Luck. |
