Ok,

So my group of brave (and really stupid) adventurers have traveled to Calimshan to free a Noble Man's daughter from slavery. They began from Waterdeep and the initial trip south to Calimshan was uneventful. Once there, they traveled to Calimport and discovered that the daughter was being held by none other than The Pasha of Calimshan, Ruler of all of Calimshan. She was located in his personal herem. So they infiltrated the Palace (by alotta luck - Posed as Nobles) and made it to the herem. Unfiortunately they triggered the alarms and now the minions of the Pasha are coming for them. That is where we stopped the game.

My question is this:

What kind of minions do you think the Pasha has at his command?

Besides the guards, I was thinking of Djinn, Efreeti, Air and Fire Elementals, and such.

Also, my players will want to just use a Teleport Spell to teleport out of the Palace. Do you think the Pasha would have wards around his Palace to prevent something like that?

Any hints, idea's, or suggestion you guys can give me would be appreciated.

My suggestion is (as I don't remember to the exact detail) that you read the Icewind Dale trilogy of novels and especially the third book in the series "The Halfling's Gem".

In that book, there's an interesting (if short) overview of the city of Calimshan and its sewers. The entire mansion of the Pasha Pook is detailed alongside his henchmen - which include some wererats and a powerful evil sorcerer.

I do not know if you mean the Pasha Pook of the Pook guild or the absolute Pasha Syl-Pasha Ralan el Persakhal of all Calimshan.

Yep,

Read those books, and I used a few idea's from them.

To give you a little more detail, the group that snuck into the Palace consists of:

1) Drow Rogue 7 / Assassin 9 (AL: N)

2) Gnome Wizard 15 / Archamge 3 (AL: CN)

3) Elf Rogue 3 / Ranger 7 / Assassin 10 (AL: CN)

Oh and to explain the Assassin levels, they were Evil, gained their Assassin levels, then changed Alignments and can no longer level in Assassin. Didn't want anyone screamin about that. They are on a quest to redeem themselves. And saving the Nobleman's daughter is only one step on a long road.

I was just wondering if it should be easy for them to get out, or should I make it really hard?

Quite an interesting party you have.

I 'd say have the palace guards hunt them dowm during their escape so you can set up a rooftop chase-like scene (as in Prince of Persia 2 - the Shadow and the Flame) where the players should act clever&fast and try to escape rather than confronting themselves with that surmounting numbers of guards.

I like that scene.

Hey I like that!

Thanks!

Oh and the Gnome has a Magic Carpet. Maybe I can use a couple scenes from Aladin, lol!!!

My story is beginning to take form!

Yeah, just be sure that in the end, after they eventualy escape, they find a cliffside with a cave entrance and they need to speak the words "open sesame" to enter it. :D

Here's the deal.

They should easily be able to overwhelm the Harem guards. They should easily be able to kill Syl-Pasha El Parsekhal if they want to.

HOWEVER, it should be noted that the person they are trying to escape with is probably NOT as healthy or high level as a group of seasoned adventurers and that if they start getting shot at, a couple simple crossbow shots could easily kill the person they're trying to rescue.

The problem here is the 1 in 20 rule and no cleric. Plus, if Syl-Pasha El-Parsekhal dies, well, all the thieves guilds in the city join up to hunt the Player Characters. Did we mention he runs them ALL?

Granted, after they die, that's when the real bloodshed starts, but that is not your problem. If the archmage memorized teleport or greater teleport, then they shouldn't have any problem teleporting once they get outside the castle grounds. Of course, the palace stretches about half a mile in all directions, so getting out requires one hell of a sprint...

Seems to me you had a problem with your PCs and you needed to vent.

Well, no. Actually, I was just informing him of the lore reality of the situation.

Killing the Pasha of Calimshan is a ridiculous move, because whoever replaces him, in addition to angry thieves guilds, is OBLIGATED to hunt you down and kill you.

It's not a choice. This is how these sorts of societies functioned.
