-Every so often, they put out "postings", saying in very precise terms what they want. When they do put out these postings, a wild race ensues between plenty of amateur authors, most of whom have no business vying for a job as a professional author. After all of the madness subsides, the enlightened minds at WotC review all of the stuff they have, and they then select the individual(s) who they like the best.

-So, in other words, if you want to be an author, set your stories somewhere other than the Forgotten Realms, or any other WotC setting, and find your own publisher.

But it has to be submitted in a very precise time frame and under very precise rules to be considered at all from what I understood. Was kinda contemplating it myself with a short story or something myself, just for a laugh.

I think you best bet to get published with wizards is to get published somewhere else, then atleast you have creditionals to go with your submission.

I don't believe Paizo accepts unsolicited stories either. They have fiction pieces in Dragon a few times a year in the past, but they're all from particular authors that are approached by the editors. You have to already be established as an author to have a shot really.
