| Tebryn Swiftstrike10-26-03, 08:09 PM | I'd suggest you create a campaign based on your own ideas. Leaves more room for creativity! Just my two Zhents' worth! Good gaming! |
| avian tiefling10-26-03, 08:57 PM | i think that basing your first campaign around an exhisting story would make for a good trial session, to help further develop your creativity in the field. you can do that, and keep track of anything else you come up whith when you're doing that one, then compile them into a campaign that's entirely your own! using an exhisting campaign is good practice for a beginner DM. if you need other ideas or help in other various campaign endeavors throw your thoughts at me. i'd be happy to help. aviantiefling@hotmail.com |
| Midnight Lurker10-27-03, 07:22 AM | Personally, I'd recommend against it. Invariably, the PCs will do something that will destroy the familiar storyline. They'll react differently than you need them to in order to advance the story to its written conclusion. At this point, if you've planned on it tying into the story, its easy to fall into the trap of "railroading" the PCs, which is an easy way to ruin an adventure. my 2 cp |
| Chamber10-28-03, 01:47 PM | i agree with lurker. as a dm the best training is dming your own personal ideas. at the end of the quest youll feel better...and because you werent using npcs that take up a lot of roleplay time(though using your own npcs does..for me at least) that should belong to the PCs..er something like that. not that im say in any way to not use npcs...just dont use ones that are gonna require huge game time. i think thats what i was trying to say.bah... -Chamber:b: |
| avian tiefling10-28-03, 05:47 PM | what i meant was that it would be good practice to follow the general storyline, not necessarily the plot in the books exactly. just use the books as a loose storyline, kind of a trial course |
