| Dargoth03-16-04, 10:16 PM | Gaming Report got a hold of WOTC release scheduele for the last Trimester and theres nothing after July. There are only 2 FR gaming supplements this year  For those who want to see the bad news for themselves http://www.gamingreport.com/article.php?sid=12177 |
| Dargoth03-16-04, 11:57 PM | And most of the non FR isnt that inspiring either Planar Handbook: Not alot of use to the FR our cosmologys different Eberron Shadows of the Last War: No thanks! Races of Stone: The Forgotton Realms already has Races of Faerun Monster Manual III: really indifferent Libris Mortis (Sourcebook for Undead): This is the only one that gets me really excited So it looks like its LM and the D&D minis for me |
| Tebryn1403-17-04, 12:02 AM | Well, I'm stoked about this "Planar Handbook" that you just mentioned, but I still use Great Wheel, so... |
| Misyrr03-17-04, 12:32 AM | Ah, nevermind! I mis-read... Tee hee! |
| Sammael_the_Chosen03-17-04, 01:51 AM | Originally posted by Dargoth Planar Handbook: Not alot of use to the FR our cosmologys different Whose cosmology is different? Mine most certainly isn't. Eberron Shadows of the Last War: No thanks! Races of Stone: The Forgotton Realms already has Races of Faerun Monster Manual III: really indifferent Ditto. Libris Mortis (Sourcebook for Undead): This is the only one that gets me really excited Me too. Truth be told, I'm not really interested in Serpent Kingdoms either (an odd choice for the only FR sourcebook this year), but I'll buy it for completeness' sake. |
| Tempus66503-17-04, 02:42 AM | Too bad :( But hey, it saves me some money! |
| Cunning Linguist03-17-04, 05:43 AM | I have to agree with Dargoth, Libris Mortis and Minis is about the only thing I care about.. well, guess I'll have some money to spare this year. |
| Sariel Rahab03-17-04, 11:32 AM | It states that there are some holes... so there is still hope. And there are no RPG releases for november and december, and I find that strange. |
| Faraer03-17-04, 11:35 AM | Especially since the just-announced Star Wars RPG sourcebook Ultimate Battlestations (Sep 2004) also isn't on that list, we can't deduce there's no more Realms this year after Serpent Kingdoms. |
| Cunning Linguist03-17-04, 11:44 AM | We know about 2005 products, like the new monsters of Faerun book, and the new Waterdeep book. If there was another product comming out this year, I think we would have some clue about what it was. |
| Alac Luin03-17-04, 12:41 PM | Just posted to the FR mailing list, thought it would be approriate to be here. Unfortunately, our guidelines on when we can talk about which new products don't permit me to say very much about the future plans for the FR line. However, I will tell you this: After Serpent Kingdoms, we've got another 2004 product coming out in the fall, and we're hard at work on three 2005 products -- including a high-profile book by a couple of noted Realms designers. The novel line is also doing pretty well; I'm starting work on the second book in my "Last Mythal" trilogy now, in fact. Overall, our product plans call for Eberron and FR to receive similar levels of support for the next couple of years. Eberron is definitely not displacing FR, at least not in the foreseeable future. | Sariel Rahab03-17-04, 02:05 PM | Woo-hooo!! (Though I don't like that "... at least not in the foreseeable future." |
| Cunning Linguist03-17-04, 02:51 PM | (Though I don't like that "... at least not in the foreseeable future." That would only happen if most of the FR people moved over to the new setting, and just look at how that worked for TSR. Neither Dark Sun, Mystra, Planescape, Ravenloft, Spelljammer, Grayhawk, Dragonlance or Alternete Reality made Forgotten Realms obsolite, (none of these even sold more then FR) why would one setting from Wizards do it? |
| Patrakis03-19-04, 09:39 AM | The waterdeep book is in the fall of 2004 section on the EN World site, by the way. |
| Cunning Linguist03-19-04, 09:46 AM | Waterdeep book should be out with the new Waterdeep novel by Ed and Elaine Cunningham, and I remember reading that Ed said it would be out in 2005.. |
| Misyrr03-19-04, 11:45 AM | Well, that would make sense, its release at the same time as the novel, but Venom's Taste (I believe is the title...) is coming out before Serpent Kingdoms and they've got the same novel/accessory connection going on. |
| Lashan03-19-04, 12:02 PM | I think Races of Stone is going to be an excellent product. It is sure to have a lot of info on those races to expand them in FR. I mean, many of those races are transplantable between game worlds. It won't make that much of a difference. If you are playing a standard dwarf in Greyhaw or FR, it doesn't matter too much. There are sure to be a ton of prestige classes and other info to make dwarves and gnomes a lot more interesting. I think for once, they are going to detail another race besides elves. It's about time. |
| Tempus66503-19-04, 12:42 PM | Originally posted by Lashan I think Races of Stone is going to be an excellent product. Anyway, I´m glad we´re going to have another 2004 FR product after all :D |
| jnosh03-19-04, 12:53 PM | I think books on races would be great, there isn't enough info on gnomes in Races of Faerûn. So I am rather excited about it. |
| Lashan03-19-04, 02:01 PM | Actually, I DO think that we could use more on a race after Races of Faerun. While I think ROF is a terrific book, there could be more information, particularly on non-elven races. Dwarves have always gotten the shaft (mine shaft, that is...) when it came to FR. This is not going to be fluff stuff (such as histories and cultures), but will have some crunch, which is ok with me. You can always build fluff around crunch. Or at least, there is the chance of it. Still, any amount of detail will be good. The gnomes need SOMETHING to make them stand out. I think ANYTHING on them is worthwhile. |
| Tempus66503-19-04, 05:57 PM | I understand what you´re saying. What I think is bad about having so many books around is that as soon as character creation (or even leveling) time arrives, at least a hundred books need to be consulted. :( I know, I know, you don´t have to get all these books, and I am not going to, but still... |
| Faraer03-19-04, 06:15 PM | The Waterdeep novel was due for August 2005, last I knew. I'm not interested in the D&D rules per se, only in a few of its campaign worlds. We've been given little reason to be interested in what the current WotC staff writers have to say about subjects like races or environments, treated for no particular coherent setting but the make-it-up-as-you-go implied Greyhawk Light. I could get use from such books, but I'm not going to buy them before the many books and other things I'm excited and interested to spend money on. Wizards wants to make the D&D brand the star, with authors downplayed, because they don't want to rely on any single group of people. But people buy books because of who wrote them, not the publisher, and that's a tough trend to work against. Of course I'd love a big new sourcebook on Realms dwarves or gnomes or halflings, or elves (there's surprisingly little source material on what elves actually think and do, their traditions, history beyond Evermeet and Cormanthyr). But the Realms books are more niche than the core-D&D books, so we get one races book for the Realms and several for D&D. I'm really pleased, though, that Wizards looks to be finally doing a major marketing effort for D&D. They're the only ones with the money to try such an expansion, and it can't but benefit the industry. (RPGs should be promoted to children; though, again, they should also be promoted to adults, and there are adults who'd love the medium who weren't and wouldn't have been drawn in by child-targeted semi-RPG board and miniatures games.) |
| druid berrymore03-20-04, 02:13 PM | Anyone wanna speculate about what book is coming out after Serpent Kingdoms? Is it the Waterdeep book, or the monsters book, or is it something that has managed to evade our radar altogether? Personally, I'd like to see that fallen empire book I've heard about. What else could it be? |
| David Lazaro Saz03-29-04, 08:15 PM | I'll vote for the Waterdeep book. As some people said it is listed on the ENWorld web site and also has been one of most anticipated. After that, I don't really know but I suppose some part of the Heartlands—either the Western, the Central, or the Dales—are going to receive the third and a half treatment. If only because it would be a nice counterpart to the classic audience that won't ever touch Eberron even with a ten foot pole (me included). But only time and the line director will tell. |
| Dargoth03-29-04, 08:24 PM | Id say the 3rd book for 2004 will be either the Lost Empires book or a Regional Source book on the Chondath and th south (Thomas Reid worked on the book and hes also writing a trilogy of novels set in that area) The Waterdeep source book wont come out till April/MAy next year, Rich said there going to release the source book around the same time that Ed and Elaines Waterdeep novel comes outnext year |
| ksu_bond03-30-04, 02:43 AM | Here's another possibility for this falls phantom book http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=209100 |
| Monsoon2803-30-04, 06:06 AM | Oh please not Silvery Moon! We already have a silver marches book! Lost Empires would seem like a possibility, but I'd really love a Baldur's Gate City book and surrounding territory (I'll keep my fingers crossed for that one). But I'll vote on a Chondath source book. (work faster Thomas Reid!) *whipping sound* ;) |

(work faster Thomas Reid!) *whipping sound* ;) Well, I do not know what to expect from the "Serpent Kingdoms" book, but isn't it supposed to cover various kingdoms and places related to lizard/dragon/serpent type of creatures? My knowledge of the Realms is "Beginner Level" (even after more than 10 years of RPG, I am just starting to look at the FR) so I may be wrong: Wouldn't Chondath be covered in "Serpent Kingdoms" because of the Yuan-Ti or am I confusing this with Hondleth? Bocklin |
| Tempus66503-30-04, 07:57 AM | Originally posted by Bocklin covered in "Serpent Kingdoms" because of the Yuan-Ti or am I confusing this with Hondleth? Yes, it´s Hlondeth that has the yuan-ti overlords, and I think (and hope) that this city will be detailed in SK. |

I would think that it is. With the release of the Venom’s Taste (I know that the mere mention of a novel gets a grim stare from the powers that be… *bats eyes at Big Sister* …But I am merely making a small point.) to drum up interest in the city. |

I'm stoked about the possiblity of Hlondeth getting heavily profiled! It's also one reason I can't wait to rush out today and buy smedman's book. ;) |
| Wardow03-31-04, 03:42 AM | I've been playing DnD for about 15 years. This has been almost exclusive to FR. So over the last 3 editions I have collected a lot of source books. Though some are not statistically 3.5 most of the information is still accurate or playble Even converting some things over from 2ED sources isn't really that hard. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, you can always download the materials for free the download section of wizards site, or svgame has most of the materials a on pdf for a low cost. |

The beauty of this is that WoTC gives permission to photcopy it. A friend of mine downloaded all the undermountain material and had Kinkos print it up and bind it for him. It cost him $50... far less than if he were to bid on all that stuff on EBay. ---edit--- Kinkos will only print things for you with written consent. So you have to download the material from a reputable source. |
| qstor03-31-04, 02:59 PM | I'd like to see a Cormyr Dalelands book with a full treatment of the events after the death of Azoun IV. Mike |
| Lashan03-31-04, 05:41 PM | Personally, I think Sembia is long due to be detailed, even though I am not sure I would like how they portray it. I don't like the concept of the Silver Ravens and think it would be heavy on that plotline. Personally, a Volo's Guide to Sembia would be what I was looking for. A description of the cities and businesses without having to go too much into the major plots and NPCs (or 3E PrC's and whatnot). The Moonsea and the Vast would be great to be detailed, as well. |
| Plunderer_of_the_planes03-31-04, 07:17 PM | -gah- Not Waterdeep anything but Waterdeep.....Sorry guys but I'm A little tired of Waterdeep. (hence the recent siege of it IMC that left it in Bad shape) I'd rather see more on the Western Heartlands or The north..Maybe even some Deatil on Baldur's Gate.... It's not like I reallt Hate Waterdeep but after playing in the realms for so many years I get tired of the publishers thinking that Waterdeep is the only sity on that side of Faerun. It's kinda like the focus that was around a few years ago that the Dales was the place..... Ooops I ranted sorry... |
