I am not very into Forgotten Realms, but since I am being forced to play in the world for a while I have a few questions I was hoping someone might know the answer to.
What is the deal with Bahamut? He is not mentioned in Faiths and Pantheons, but my Dm tells me That he is not "present on FR anymore. I guess present is not the right word. He does still grant spells and the like, but certain spells (Planer Ally, Divinations that request answers/aid, etc. . .) are met with a "You know you should not do this, please do not attempt it again?" response from inside my head or something.
According to Faiths and Pantheons, Tiamat has only recently entered FR and is still a minor power. This seems to contradict the notion that Bahamut ever existed in FR. My Dm tells me that my character would know this, but for some unknown reason, Bahamut is denied/denies himself from interacting if the Realms, but it soesn't seem to make any sense, especially considering the things that Complete Divine attributes to his ideals and tactics. So what is the real story about Bahamut?

WOTC wrote him out of the world and thus your DM is right. He doesn't exist in canon FR any more. I know Sean Reynolds said he should have included him but then the Player's Guide came out and that backed up the info in Faiths & Pantheons and thus, until WOTC says otherwise, that deity doesn't exist in FR and he never has.

Of course you or your DM can do what many of us did and just bring him back because he existed in many of the old 1e and 2e FR material. :)

SO, did Bahamut maybe exist in FR in previous editions of the game?

Bahamut did exist in previous versions. He may still exist in the Realms. He also goes by the name of Xymor. He might not be considered a god anymore, he might be some sort of draconic celestial paragon. But then he wasn't always a god anyway. In 1e he was more of an epic unique dragon king, but not really a god.

He was culled from the list of deities when they rewrote FR for the 3.0 rules. But Sean K. Reynolds was convinced after the culling that he probably should not have been culled. But no one has snuck him back into an official Realms mention of him anywhere.

Tom Costa did a really, really cool (unofficial) write up of him for 3.0 at this link here: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Vault/9974/bahamut.htm

There was a thread on these boards just a few weeks back that had lots of info on this same topic, searching back through the threads a few clicks might turn up exactly what you need.
