Baldur's Gate questions [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-14-05, 07:26 PM just had a few questions in regards to some of the elements presented in the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 video game...

When playing as Allessia Faithhammer, the guy from the Church of Helm offers you a quest to find Goreth Vileblack, a cleric of Cyric. Apparently he's supposed to be raising an army of skeletons so he can invade Asbravn. The site he's using to gather these forces is an ancient mausoleum at the foot of the Sunset Mountains (called the Unholy Mausoleum).

My questions are...
1) is this site purely video game detail, or was it based on an actual FR site?

2) And, probably more important, are there any maps of the mausoleum?

oh, and 3) does anyone have any idea what year DR the game takes place?

11-14-05, 07:50 PM I've never encountered any particular reference to an "Unholy Mausoleum" in the Sunset Mountains. Both Asbravn and the Sunset Mountains are actual places in the Realmslore, but they've received only slight detailing in the various products that focus on these regions -- Elminster's Ecologies - Appendix I being a source that immediately comes to mind.

11-14-05, 08:27 PM I think the games probably tend to focus certain plots around relatively undetailed places so that they don't end up getting canon confused. Since there isn't much detail on the Sunset Mountains, one could put the plot there from the BG game and it would fit alright. If they uses places with more detail, then they start overlapping events and canon and confusing people.

11-16-05, 01:52 PM Especially since the Dark Alliance series is so small of an offshoot of the BG games. They just needed a very localized place to do their story in. The other games (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale) were big enough to actually take place in the metaplot. Also, it also felt that the good folks that brought us those wonderful games took a lot more care in their jobs than those who made DA. Don't get me wrong, I like the DA games, but they don't have that same nostalgic feel as the originals.

:PWell, as I said, the Mausoleum itself hasn't appeared in any Realmslore, so the chances of an actual official map are zero. Of course, someone may have plotted out a map from the game and posted it online somewhere. Try google.

As for the year the game is set in... I've never played it myself, so I can't help you there. Unless there are particular references to events happening during the game perhaps... important details that may been drawn from the Realmslore to flesh out the background of the game. If you can provide anything like this, I'll likely be able to help you plot a relative timeframe for the game.
