ok, so its been my goal to set up a game for my crew that follows the TSR Computer Game : Baldurs Gate storyline and game pretty much for that matter.

the rules ive set up are, 5 (if i can get that many) players who have been playing D&D for a while and have also played / beaten (if possible) Baldurs Gate on the computer. and one player who has been playing D&D but has not played Baldurs Gate and so as such knows nothing about it.

having those 5 players play random NPC's that are met through the campaign (minsc, imowen, xar, etc) and have them (do their very best to know whats comming but to keep it as out of game as they possibly can) and lead the 6th player around in his journey.

sofar, the hardest part ive found is actually scripting out all the talking that is to happen. (im trying to stay as close to the game as i can while making it version 3.5)

if anyone knows where i can find online a script of all the diologue and encounters and characters it would save me SOOOO much time. or if anyone else has ever had this idea and wants to share some advice or just wants to point out some things i might not be aware of id appreciate that aswell ...

this game isnt set to start for quite a while so im ok on time, but i do wanna get things started. ive even thought of getting a laptop and keeping it behind the screen and just reading off things how they happen in game (basicly use a trainer to make the PC a god and only move through as fast as needed)

I don't know about the 5 "NPC" thing... I don't think these players will want to be "second" to the player which will be the Bhaal spawn. The characters in the game knew the PC was a Bhaal Spawn ( well most of them anyway) but they didn't know any of the events to come.

My biggest concern with this is that you might stay too close to the computer game. If as you say you got 5 players that have much experience and have finished the game, staying too close to the main quest will bore them quick if they're just NPCs that are bound to help the PC.

What would be cool though is to set up a campaign around the same time or before and have the PCs see all this happen and play a part in it. Perhaps the characters where bond together because they all are Bhaal Spawn ( see Throne of Bhaal...). Perhaps they could carry on a quest set before the events of the first game and help Sarevok's rise through the Iron Throne's ranks without their knowledge... Meabe the PCs are sent in Baldur's gate (From Amn) to see if there is really a threat of war.

Just keep most iconic character like Gorion, Sarevok, Eltan etc. and build around it. Just my 2 cents... :)

Although, if you still do what you wanted, keep us informed. I would love to hear how it turns out and how players do in this story! :)

Best of luck! :D

I was curious, Gildnao; are you in need of stats for the BG/BG2 NPCs? If so, I've got a thread for them in my sig. It's got stats for Sarevok, Irenicus, and a lot of the joinable NPCs as well (some by me, and numerous other versions by others).

Thank you so much for giving me that link Mad Mage!!

you just cut like, months off of my work in preperation!!

Sofar, my plans are just to do BG1, see how the players / protaganist and myself all feel about how its playing out. ive DM'ed before and all my players really enjoy the neat spins and twists i throw at them and they want me to continue DMing, but, alas School and Job must take precidence (damn real life ... why cant i win the lottery?!?!)

anyways, thank you for the advice Tseramed, i will also take that into consideration and ask the players i want to play the NPC's what their opinions are.

as for them playing NPC's im toying with having them come up with background / scriptish information on their prefered NPC's by playing the game over again and seeing what they think the NPC's would react to givin situations. im also BEGGING them to make their characters as RP intensive as i can (sofar everyone ends up resorting to the hack-and-slash style game play and i REALLY wanna discurage that type of game play (it gets really boring in my eyes really quickly) [No Offense Intended if any of you are reading this, i do enjoy our gaming sessions, just wanna try some more RP games]
