| MojoGM08-21-03, 03:51 PM | Hi all, In reading some of the posts on this board, and of the many significant changes some of you have made to the Realms, I've been inspired to "shake up" my Cormyr Campaign a bit. I'm thinking of having one of Azoun's illegitimate sons try and seize the throne. Now, my question is, how to begin? What would be the best method to set this up? Should the usurper be out among the people, gaining popularity while trashing the current regime? Would he raise an army? Go city by city, town by town, until the realm is his? How would the Purple Dragons and War Wizards react? What sort of battles would ensue? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance MojoGM |

| Kuje3108-21-03, 06:42 PM | Not all of his illegitimate children are make though. There is a daughter, in I believe the City of Splendors box set, who looks just like Azoun and it is hinted that she is one of his children. However, I think I recall right that only those who are legit are allowed to take over the throne and the nobles would not accept those who are not legit. |
| Prime Minister Malchior08-21-03, 08:08 PM | Not all of the nobles liked King Azoun IV and, I'm sure, many of those same nobles don't like Regent Alusair either. If an illegitimate child of Azoun were to attempt to usurp the throne, he might have support from certain noble houses... ...at least, some of the ones that have not already been thrown into ruin after the last such attempt. Then, of course, they'd still have to deal with Alusair. Personally, *I* would rather set my head on fire and have it put out with a sledgehammer than have to face an angry Alusair. |
| Charles Phipps08-22-03, 12:23 AM | Is also something of his downfall He has DOZENS of &@*@(@ its implied so that any attempt to use said blood to claim the throne is destined to failure Though in our game an interesting situation has occurred Princess Allusair has given birth to a child and its a half-elf... |
| Thrudjelmer08-22-03, 02:16 AM | Remember, the Obarskyr family is the ruling family in Cormyr... but they are not the only royal family. The Crownsilver family, Huntsilver family, and Truesilver family are royals as well. The question is, should the Obarskyr house fall, which family would be next in line to take over the kingdom? |
| Charles Phipps08-22-03, 04:03 AM | The Moonflowers The moment the Obaskyr dynasty falls its time once again to retake the elven lands from the humans. If you agree to not disturb the vast forrests, relocate while we do some major replanting, and properly bow/scrape to your gold masters then you can stay. It wasn't long ago at all that elves ruled Cormyr (elf time speaking) so why shouldn't they retake it? *twang twang twang* Hehehe, good bye War wizards. The Purple Dragon if he sees the humans resisting elven domination might also feel justified in saying the elves lost their territories and he's justified in butchering the entire population :-) |
| MojoGM08-22-03, 10:01 AM | Thanks all for the replies so far. This is what I am thinking so far.... 1. Cormyr is in rough shape. Some of the noble families are not thrilled at the way things are being run. 2. I read somewhere (Dragon Annual #5 perhaps), that there may be a few illegitimate children of Azoun who may surface and make a claim to the throne. 3. So, a son will surface. He will try to build support (perhaps even going so far as to manipulate events to make the current regime look weak), and make a claim. So, any ideas on how to start this? I have a few ideas my self, but I'd like to hear what others think. Oh, and PLEASE don't quote cannon to tell me it "can't" happen, because ANYTHING can happen when you're the DM. Thanks |
| louissan08-22-03, 10:04 AM | :D It can't happen. :D (sorry couln't help that...) |
| MojoGM08-22-03, 10:10 AM | :) I suppose I was just asking for that... :) |
