| Herr Doktor12-30-03, 02:25 AM | I will soon (Sunday the 4th of January) start running a Forgotten Realms campaign that takes place in 1357 DR, The Year of the Prince. That is, one year prior to the Time of Troubles. A lot of the players in our group are not all that familiar with the history of the realms, and so I thought this a good oppurtunity for them to experience some of the more recent history first hand. The PCs will be 4th level, that being the average of the levels each told me they'd prefer to begin at. They will be good aligned or compatible (LG, NG, CG, LN, N; though the latter two will be discouraged). They've asked for slightly more oppurtunities for action than role-playing and conversation, with a good mix of combat and problem-solving encounters. I also got two votes for a mostly wilderness setting and three votes for an urban enviornment, so I plan for the initial setting to be an urban center of some sort with easy access to wilderness locales and trade routes. I am currently researching various cities and what they were like before the Time of Troubles. I believe that I'd like the initial setting to be Westgate. I've no experience at all running this particular city or its surrounding environs. It has never been visited in any of the campaigns my group has run through and I myself have not read any novels based there. If you know of good sources for information on Westgate or the surrounding region please let me know. Novels involving the city, and obscure references are also welcomed sources of information. Advice on running adventures in the time period, or other locations that may suit the players desires will also be appreciated. Thanks for reading! |

Im pretty sure FR Adventures has a 2 Page Spread on Westgate, listing Taverns, churches etc If you can get ahold of the old 1ed FR boxset that will be of alot of help to you as it lists everything that happans in the 2 years before the time of Troubles |

I had just looked through FR Adventures and was suprised at your "misinformation" since you're usually pretty accurate about the proper sources when I took a second look. It seems my old crumbling copy is missing several pages! It goes from page 114 (the first page of Urmlaspyr) directly to page 119 (the second page on Yhaunn). Drat, drat, drat! |

| Lashan12-30-03, 11:15 AM | Cloak and Dagger the old 2E supplement that is like Lords of Darkness has some detailed history on Westgate as well. I think there might even be a free web supplement time line that you can download from somewhere. There is a lot of changes of what happened to the "Night King". I even believe that there was a novel based on one plot line. It might be interesting to have the various incarnations of the Night King show up in the city. |

Here it is: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20010327d It's a timeline of Westgate, and a break-down of the royal dynasties of Westgate. |
| Herr Doktor12-30-03, 02:07 PM | That is exactly the information that I needed! Thank you Wooly for pointing out that web enhancement. |
| Herr Doktor12-31-03, 11:37 AM | The PCs will probably be in Westgate during the Time of Troubles when Garagos goes on a rampage, thrashing the docks and countless mercenaries. The cover of Powers and Pantheons shows Garagos standing ankle deep in bloodied waters, with numerous floating corpses near by. Is this cover art depicting that scene? |
