What was the absolute most fun adventure/campaign that you had ever been a part of? What character did you use? What was the party like?

I am trying hard to remember which was most fun for me. I can think of a few that were great but I'd like to hear some of yours before deciding.

The bestest campaign was also the shortest :( I was the DM, and this was the first time the players tried different character concepts. We had a fire genasi evoker, a human cleric of Lathander and an elven ranger/sorcerer/arcane archer.

The campaign took place in the Silver Marches, and I used several adventures from that book, just to get the players acquainted with the area and its machinations. Well, due to certain actions on their behalf, they got knocked out by a band of Shar worshippers.

I didn't want to end this campaign already, so I ruled that they all awoke somewhere in a wooden cage, without their gear of course, and this cage got transported through a mountain pass. Unbeknownst to the PC's, they were being transported from Deadsnows to Sundabar.

They ended up high in the mountains when the cart the cage was on got plundered by a roc, which ate the goblin guards. After quite a while of moving through the mountains, caverns, and avoiding orc patrols, they arrived at the beginning of my super adventure (yes, I had really been looking forward to putting my players through this piece of adventure), and then two of the players decide they don't like playing characters who had been stripped of all gear...

So much for that campaign :tantrum:

But we had a lot of fun while it lasted, the The North feeling was there all the way.

Thanks for sharing!

Best one I think I played was when my Fighter/Thief was only about 14th level, but I had mad feats and skills. The DM made a character to take me on who was 18th level twin sword wielder (like me-except he had bracers of blinding strike) who had (in our campaign) a reputation of being one of the best swordsman in the Realms. This badass fighter was supposed to beat me in the duel as a part of the adventure but I had a miracle series of 20 rolls while he kept rolling under 10 and I annihilated him. The DM had to improvise the plot after I sent him running. It was great!

I guess that qualifies as one of the best times I had, not the best adventure.

My best game was when I was the gold dwarf paladin of Moradin, named Rurik Bloodstone, with my faithful human rogue, by the name of Willy, human barbarian (his name was very stupid, Abu Dabi Cilim Cutuk), and our misanthropic druid Nimles Anon. We had that Sun elf wizard who betrays us in the first session, and I swore the blood oath that I will kill him for that (he actually released a powerful deamon, only to make peaople suffer). During my vengeful hunt, I died twice (once against a blackguard who was 18th level, when I was 11th, and second time against LE half red dragon monk, he kcked my but out). In the time of my second fall, I already lost my paladinhood, and I was on my way of reclaiming it.
The plot was megalomaniac. Some guy from Amn made deal with Red Wizards, who tried to make three really big flesh golems (those from Epic Handbook), which we disrupted for some time. The idea was to conquer the world, and our idea was to not let it happen.
We also found, at the North pole of Toril, a "spine" of the world. It is some big rocky stick that goes all the way from the North to the South pole of Toril, and it has the entire history of Toril insribed in it in some really strange language, if that was a language at all.
I also had the honour of seeing my beloved one sucked dry by a vampire, but I also killed that vampire before she raised as one. The rest of my campaign was searching for the cure, stopping the evil plot, and hunting sown my arch-nemesis.
Anyway, that game ended, due to the complication, and due to my second death. In the end, my companions were all 13-14 lvl, and I would be 11, if somebody actually raised me from the dead.
Well that's it. Hope you liked it!

the best campaign i have ever had was one i ran ) i am dm 99% of the time) set in the western heartlands. The game featured to core games, one a young and eager cleric of tempus, and the other began as a thief but died half way thru the first game, so ended up playing a wizard ( which he didnt want to do at first) the game was the longest we ever had, lasting over 1 1/2 years and concluding with a battle against the reacurring arch enemy.
what made the game the best was a combination of factors.
one the game included at one time or another seven other people who played for a period of time, contributing to the overall story for a bit, some made multiple apearences others were one adventure and done, this really added a good feel to the game since like good fiction the characters dont stay with their friends all the time and the idea of losing them reallty shapes the characters personality.
Two, it didnt have one single goofy or stupid pc ever. no powergames sun elf wizard with spell prodigy, no half pixie half copper dragon barbarian, no stupid drow trying to be good drizzt wanabees, nada zip zilch, too often players get caght up in these as being what defines their "character" stats and funny race/class combos don't make a memorable character, personallity and character based decisions/interactions do. the stats werent great at all, the players earned every gp, xp and magic item. sorry about the rant i just am frustrated by the turn i see modern gamers taking, apologies all,
and finally the best part was that every single person had some impact on the game. no one dominated the progression of the game. no matter what i had planned if the players took to an idea that was more interesting than my own it became a part of the game. that made it so much more fulfilling.
that was the best game i ever played in. i would add more details but my reply is a bit long as it is. maybe later i'll add more

My current Planescape campaign. I've got two current PCs originally from Toril, a third PC was from there as well but has since been retired to NPC status. Despite being around 90% located on the planes, I've had two extended plot arcs taking place in FR, in Halruaa and the Dire Wood. It's likely that I'll return to world again before the campaign is over as well.

The best I played in was a Vampire game set in Vancouver. I was pretending to be an elder Tzimisce who predated the Sabbat and was staying away from them, when I was really a shmuck on the run. I had some good successes, but boy did my Storyteller screw me over (It was fair, by Vampire standards). The other characters included two Tremere, a Gangrel, and a Toreodor. It was great fun.

That was years ago. My favorite recent campaign was City of the Spider Queen. My character was a N Drow Necromancer with who was as almost as good as he thought he was. I was the leader of a party consisting of a Human Order of the Bow In, Drow Psychic Warrior, and Human Fighter/Rogue/Cleric, and a Svirfneblin Rogue.

I would have to say that while I don't have a favorite campaign that I've either played or DMed (I tend to enjoy myself no matter how dreadful the game actually is), the one I'm having the most fun with now is the current FR game that I'm running. It is actually two seperate campaigns under one umbrella.

The first campaign is a mid-level (11-13) where the players made strictly good aligned characters, using alot of the options presented in the Book of Exaulted Deeds. This made for a lot of fun characters; the group consisting of a LG half-gold dragon paladin/diciple of Bahamut, a CG gold elf ring sage, a CG human ranger/rangerknight who is trying to buy his way into high society, a CG air-gensai thief, a CG elan Thrallherder, and a few others, these mostly being character of players who float on through (the group dynamics are so much fun to watch). These characters are at cross purposes with the other group of characters these players made. For their own protection I shuttled these characters off to a 'shadow' realm of FR where they are doing a town building/war camapign/quest for legendary weapons for the time being.

The other group of characters that these players made for the other campaign are epic level (21-23), strictly evil aligned characters mad with the Boof of Vile Darkness. These consist of a LE pit fiend fighter/infernal lieutenant, a LE human despot, a CE human barbarian, a LE human nar demonbinder, a CE moon elf thief/assassin, and a NE human fighter. The basis of this group is (no surprise here) resurrection of a dead god (Myrkul), and general ascencion into godhood. Most of this groups gaming stuff is done online through emails, but every once in a while they clash and i do a sit down session. Due to the power of this group these sit down sessions are rather rare and any actual fighting is done on other planes, or through their proxies and minions (almost everyone of the bastards took the epic leadership feat).

This is actually increadibly fun for all comcerned because they get to do the standard role-playing game but also get to delve into massive behind the scenes intrigue, get to have normal battles and encounters but also get to meet and fight fantasic and legenday beings, and everyone gets to be as good and as evil as they want. I am actually very impressed because there have been no alignment infractions at all. Also since I run rather non-linear stories and plots, it frees me up to do alot more free form DMing to cover everything, but I think its still going to give me a massive stroke one of these days. :D

Best ever campaign I have played involved myself as the leader of the party of primarily halflings, Mook's Minions. It began with everybody having to be small sized and whilst it did branch out to include 'biggers' the primary part of the party remained halflings. The party spent a great deal of time trying on non-combat orientated things (mainly procurring enough bacon and ale to last to the next town or dungeon).

After declaring myself leader, I proceded to give every a title and if someone did something particularly special I promoted them up the "Mook's Scale of Leadership". They were also subdivided into the Death Squad (halflings)and Minions (non-halflings upon displaying suitable qualities).

Some of the titles included:
Captain Mook 'Black Fox' Ragesth also known as Mook Baconbane
Syrus, Minion Grand High Bombadier
Snorri Furrybreecshes, Death Squad Commander etc. and we also had a pony that carried most of our supplies that someone arbitrarily named, "The Donkey" (this was pre-Shrek) and someone else had the ponies teeth filed to points.

There was also a journal recording our adventures (and suposedly b'days when they fell due as such information was recorded for these characters) and an accurate record of the days passing was needed.

Some excerpts before I go:

"4 Hammer
This day sees me on the road after a rather unsuccessful venture into an overcharging merchants home. After escaping the clutches of the Watch I made my way back to my home to find a message awaiting me. Apparently not all died in the attack on my home after all. A young human by the name of Tenith has not only survived but has been seeking out survivors of Thistledale’s destruction. He knows of a number of survivors who are apparently stout of heart enough to deal with the murderous scum. We are to meet at a village known as Hommlet (makes me feel hungry already) and I am currently on my way there."

"Now we are in Hommlet which has a very mysterious and spooky tower nearby. We have decided to ignore it."

"23 Hammer
We have made a mark on the pirates already, making contact. We were discovered and set upon, but managed to make off into the forest. Morale low, mainly due to supplies running low after a huge breakfast. Note to self: purchase more ale and food next time.
Tenith died today, as well."

"3 Tarsakh
We are returning to the temple on the morrow so that we may wreak vengeance on the mage and his bastard imp thing, but first a few drinks in the honour of our fallen comrades.

4 Tarsakh
Too ill to go today. Will go tomorrow."

"26 Tarsakh
There was a bright. Shining light and the delicate aroma of bacon, ale and roasting chicken and I felt pretty relaxed. Then I heard a voice calling from the light.
“Black Fox, come into the light”, it said and I floated towards the sounds of laughter and drinking. The voice continued.
“It’s your round”. So I turned away from the light and headed back to the land of the living, where everyone seemed slightly shiny and new. Apparently one of our number ran afoul of a trap and blew everybody up (including myself) and some of us died and were raised from the dead to live again as foul undead beings, forever destined to haunt taverns and eating bacon.
Well a halfling can dream, can’t he?
Actually Randalf couldn’t be raised as he had been too long dead and poisoned to boot and we’re apparently awaiting for some of the group to acquire their new suits of armour so we can go back and smite in relative safety. It seems the further we go into the temple the nastier the beasties are, who’d of thought?
We also need more Minions."

Ah, you get the idea.

Best campaign? The online Ravenloft one I was heavily-involved with over the last three years.

After that, the World of Darkness Avatar campaign some of my buddies and I still tinker with periodically.

Sadly, most of my Realms campaigns fall short of my expectations.

I got a lot of satisfaction running the old Dragonlance Classics adventures. Chronicles made me into a reader when I was a young teen, so being able to take a group of gamers through Solace, Xak Tsaroth, and Thorbardin was a real treat.

We made it as far as Icewall Glacier and Silvanesti forest before the group dissolved. Maybe I'll get the chance (and the desire) to run those modules again in the future.

I think it was the "Marco Volo" campaign I adapted to the D&D3 system . It was great great great , because the NPC are very fun to play as well as the general feeling of the campaign ... far from stinky dungeons and highly epical !!!! It reminded us a bit of these old
Errol Flynn's movies if you see what I mean ...

The one I'm in now!

DM: My Girlfriend, an emerging story teller
PCs:
Ky Nimbi, Calishite Ranger10, my air-genasi new-found brother, CG
Gengis Blackdragon, Monk10, LN, human wandering soul
Shendel Elvera, Copper Half-Dragon/Psywar5/Pyro1, CG.
This player of the female persuasion is a fairly recent player and thus had wanted such a character from day1 but was always denied of it. She can't min/max, so why did she insist on such a concept ? "I want to kick ass", she said. I was flipping through the MM and the XPH and she saw the pictures and went "Now that kicks ass !" Everytime she saw a new image to her liking, we further "multiclassed" her concept.
Arkeron Achmed Nimbi, Calishite Wiz5/Shadow Adept 5, air-genasi, NE.
I came up with a list of 50 random undesirable conditions that the DM could inflict upon my hapless char. I insisted on doing this to represent the toil weaving such dark forces has on a mortal body and psychic. Plus, Shar can be quite the b****, and it simplifies my GF's job alot!

I've conducted an OOC pact with the other players that my character would not take advantage of them (other than seeding false friendships for his benefit). But his sneakiness, focus on illusions an non-direct-damage spells, and his presumptuous-arrogant a** are a roleplaying boon in this good-intentioned party ! It's putting the other players to the test, making 'em think how they chars react to his arrogance but concrete results.

We've only played about 5 sessions but the phrase "Honey, roll." is already giving me shivers: so far I've had an unealthy attachment to an ordinary tin cup, my skin his now randomly shifting from white to black at the oddest times (an air genasi is already an unusual sight...), and I've recently lost the ability to speak in combat, which snowballed into the murder of an "innocent" man by my genasi sibling (was gonna subdue him with non-lethal spells).
