Best Player Introduction [Archive] - Wizards Community

As we all know from expereince, the level of player activity outside of sessions varies wildly from person to person. I am hoping thies honoured community knows of a high quality, but short, document that can be used to introduce casual/work-resisitant players to the realms.

Best of the Realms II - the Stories of Ed Greenwood. Just pick one! Or the Best of the Realms I. Or the Realms of Valor. Or just any of the collections :D .

07-09-05, 07:19 PM While getting the new player to read short stories can be good for imparting flavour, I was thinking of a more general "what every person in Faerun knows" sort of broad article on Faerun.
It is something I wish more companies did--provide a short 5-10 page .pdf to get players started. Asking players to read a 300 page tome like the FRCS, and suplements, is not always a possibility.

07-10-05, 03:49 PM Nothing just like that has been published (ideally it would vary for different places), but by far the best short introduction to the Realms appeared in the 1996 Forgotten Realms Conspectus, and has been reprinted in The Best of the Realms, Book II and can also be found here (http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Castle/2566/wellmet.htm).

Also ideally, this should have been what the misnamed Player's Guide to Faerūn should have done.

07-10-05, 10:56 PM I would recommend just going through the FRCS, especially the "Life in Faerun," chapter, and writing down a few facts that the PCs need to know. Of course, you don't always need to give them that many details all at once; just tell them what they need to know at the moment and expand on the Realms info later.

That would have made the hunk of binding that I spent 35 or whatever dollars on actually worth it.
