10-22-03, 06:06 PM What is your earliest memory of specific creature types while growing up? Cite the creature type/ T.V. show or movie/character name if you can.

My earliest memory of a doppleganger or "shape shifter" was with Catherine Schell's Maya character in Space 1999.

I believe Ron Pearlman's "Vincent" character from Beauty and the Beast was my first look at a were-lion.

Also, I wonder if The Creature From the Black Lagoon might have been the very first Sahuagin? Hmm?

I know The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was my first experience with fantasy at all. At the tender age of 8 or so...ah, what I could have done if I hadn't read that book...maybe I would be a doctor, or an astronaut, or President...

But specific races?... That's harder, because some are so archetypical that I can't remember first learning of them.

Well, I have sat here for 10 minutes (give or take) racking my brain, but I can't come up with anything specific enough to post.

I do know my first encounter with FR was "Pool of Radiance" borrowed from a friend.

And my first encounter with role playing was Ravenloft, and it was so awful that only a deep and abiding crush on one of the players got me to keep coming to their sessions.

Isn't that how love begins? Girl meets boy, girl wants boy, girl follows boy to gaming session, girl borrows boy's dice, girls likes boy's dice, girl gets her own dice (and books and books and dice and more books), girls forgets about boy completely...

The Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett, at the age of ten or so. Yes, I'm slightly weird.

Can't remember much about specific creatures, though.
