Calling All Clones: Manshoon! [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-10-03, 11:33 AM Page 15 of Cloak & Dagger, which first describes the Manshoon Wars, describes what several of the Manshoon clones did. It said some were trying to find ways around the compulsion to fight each other, while others hightailed it out of Realmspace, to be the only Manshoon on other worlds. Other ways around the compulsion mentioned are a girdle of femininity, undeath, or permanently polymorphing into someone else. Once the Manshoon is something other than a "living Manshoon clone," they're no longer compelled to battle each other.

Nine of the Manshoons sought sanctuary with other wizards. Those wizards, listed on the same page, are: "Larloch the Lich-King, Vimal Craumerdaun of Eshpurta, Vynmarius of Athkatla, Vizar Mohad el Fisar of Manshaka, Tenaral of Amruthar, Vyrth of Darmshall, Halaster of Undermountain, Master of Mages Guldor Zauviir of Sshamath, and the Simbul..."

Page 16 further states that there were more than forty clones of Manshoon running around.

Page 17 mentions one living in "a partly ruined keep just within the treeline of the Trollbark Forest."

Others are mentioned, but they usually either kill each other (like the two in Waterdeep) or are later found dead (like the one in the Hullack Forest). The ones I've listed are the only ones that are living and can be placed at a specific place (three fought at a MageFair, but where the two survivors went isn't stated; another briefly turned up in Darromar, the capital of Tethyr).

Page 283 of the FRCS says that there are three Manshoons left: the one that returned to the Zhentarim, the one in Undermountain, and the vampire one under Westgate.

Of the rest, all the FRCS says is that "Most of the clones perished in battle... " (same page). It does not say that all of them were killed. You could read into it a bit, and say that while only three Manshoons remain, there are other clones out there who are no longer Manshoon -- they changed to get around the compulsion.

On page 8 (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44554&perpage=30&pagenumber=8) of the Faerunian NPCs Errata (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44554&perpage=30&pagenumber=1) thread, Wizardman created a female Manshoon clone, Mashiara Penitent.

What I'm curious about is who else has created Manshoon clones for their own use. Care to share?

Another is in Westgate(with the Shadow Thieves) under a different name, and the third one is in Zhentil Keep, apparently he's the "real" Manshoon!!!!

Yes, I mentioned this in my original post. :)

However, as I say, there were over forty, and it doesn't say that all of them were killed. So you could, if you wanted to, read into that a bit. Since there were ways around the compulsion, there's nothing saying that there aren't former Manshoons out there, now with different names and appearances, or even different race/gender. Undeath gets around it, too. So, for example, the Manshoon that sought refuge with Larloch could now be a lich.

That's what I'm looking for, other people's versions of Manshoon.

12-13-03, 06:00 PM After C&D came out I got an idea involving Manshoon that I really liked. One of the pcs was a Harper and was very concerned that Fzoul's dominance of the Zhentarim made it a much more dangerous organization than when it consisted of antagonistic factions. So I planned to have Manshoon show up and ask for the party's help. As long as he had Item X (I never got far enough into the concept to define it or its properties) he would be able to reclaim his position in the Zhentarim and balance Fzoul's power. So he wanted them to go get Item X for him because it was guarded by Spectral Harpists and other Harper allies. Even though he is evil and the pcs have a particular distaste for him, it may be in their best interests to help him in order to prevent ZK from becoming a conquering juggernaut. There's a lot of potential for fun, since he could be manipulating him in any number of ways, and since they know he's evil they're bound to be paranoid.

Unfortunately, 3e premiered soon after and we all decided to begin a new campaign, and I never got to use this, and never got to the point of designing the specifics of the clone's abilities. Since there are unaccounted clones, though, it seems like this idea is still viable.
