The Candlekeep Compendium Volume 3 is now available for free download from this link here:
http://www.candlekeep.com/compendium/compendium.htm

Contained in its marvelous pages are fascinating articles of Realmslore by many noted sages from these boards.

This issue features articles on the dwarves of Faerūn and the Thunder Blessing.

There is a great article by Kuje about the everyday folk and laborers of Faerūn detailing several interesting NPC's and their backgrounds. You will also find engaging and mysterious plot hooks and untold stories of the Realms, ready to drop into any campaign.

There is also a really cool article about The Earling's Spray, a trading ship that plies the lanes between the Sword Coast, Calimshan and Chult, transporting valuable cargoes in record times.

My own humble effort is an article about the mysterious creator race known as the Batrachi.

Also in this issue is an article on Mercenary Companies of the Realms this time featuring the Green Scales.

And a truly wonderful article in the style of the old Volo's Guides detailing the settlement of Olostin's Hold west of Everlund in the North.

I think you will find a very satisfying collection of Realsmlore in these pages. And also the first two issues of the Candlekeep Compendium are also available at the above link if you haven't read them already.

Enjoy! :D

So.....

I'm curious, and here's your chances to rip me apart, about my laborer article. Useful or not? I KNOW some of you, on these boards, can give feed back both good and/or destructive. So do so!

Who is Sahastra ? Or Zann the Learned?

I'm a bit surprised you even had a Maztican in couple there. :mymy:

I'll be honest, I may not personally use them (as in I'll forget about them when I'm running in the respective areas), but in general, I think they are good representations of what low level/NPC class characters can be like.

The Corpse Taker of Jergal guy I find particularly an interesting character.

Sahastra is a deity I made up. I hope to expand her in another article for a later compendium but she's basically an aspect of Selune. Zann is a Zakhara deity in the Zakhara material. :)

For each Laborer article I'm going to try to include at least 1 NPC from the other continents/settings.

That explains things. :)

So this is going to be a regular thing?
That makes me more interested in the possibility of using them.
I'd want to print them out on separate sheets, put in files for their particular areas, etc...
I wouldn't want to bother for just 10 NPC's, but would consider it for 40. :)

I want it to be a dedicated article for each issue, aye. I started it because I was looking through NPCs for my files and noticed the lack of laborers. WOTC/TSR still hasn't given us many laborers and/or commoners so I decided to do it myself. It also helped that some other posters thought it was a good idea.

I'm already working on my next ten. :)

When I first read the information on your labourers I was excited, Kuje. You have given us something that adds a whole new dimension to Faerun. I would love to see you write another article about artists and musicians in a future installment. It is something that I feel has been missing from the material I have read. I'm sure that with the many dieties there would be a huge need for sculptures and frescos depicting gods.

I like this idea and I made note of it for some future NPC's. :)

That is a good idea for your article Kuje. Artists one volume, scientists the next, then businessmen. So many to choose from, you may even have to make add more commoners per issue!

Well 10's my limite for space, time, and other reasons. :) But I'll throw in some other types of NPC's in the upcoming articles and I like to make the NPC's have different jobs because they might be more of a use to DM's then a whole article of artists and musicians. :) We'll see.

I'm making notes and pondering this a little more because of feed back.

So anyone else...... Come on, I know some of you can give scathing feedback. :)

Speaking of Candlekeep is anyone else getting the following error when they try and load the forums?

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Cannot open database ''. It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt.

/forum/inc_header.asp, line 134

I can get the site up but the Forums seem to be down
