cavalier in the silver marches? [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-10-03, 01:38 PM I am starting in a new campaign taking place in the silver marches. My character is a LN 3rd level fighter who is semi-mounted combat specialized. My DM has said it is cool if I take the cavalier as a prestige class down the line, but I have to be able to work it into the story line.

Now, my question is this. What groups(Lords, Councils, etc.) in the area would, uh, sponsor(?) a cavalier. Preferably nothing too goody goody. Would at least like SOME flexibility for adventuring other than just following orders all the time.....:eek: !

11-10-03, 02:20 PM I belive the Knights in Silver would suit your needs well enough. They are charged with the safety of Silverymoon and the surrounding environs (50 mile patrols from the city walls in all directions and defense of neighboring cities).

If the DM has the Silver Marches regional supplement (or you can flip through it by some other means) check out pages 91 - 92 for more info on the Knights and their typical duties. It also includes info on joining the Knights.

11-10-03, 02:45 PM I have seen that, and was hoping for something a bit less restrictive. According to the cavalier class description they "generally" have a liege lord. Any ideas on how a cavalier could develop without a liege lord in that area?

11-10-03, 03:15 PM I don't see why you couldn't simply be an adventuring cavalier... Perhaps someone who as a youth respected the Knights in Silver and the bards tales that surrounded them but found the strict lifestyle and regulations of the Knights to be overwhelming when he was actually faced with the oppurtunity to join them?

Or he could simply feel like devoting himself to one lord or location would be rather selfish, and that it's his duty to protect the future of the Marches in their entirety?

Each of the cities and towns in the Marches have their own militias and military, often composed of some cavalry.

There are plenty of places your character could fit in.

11-10-03, 03:44 PM Perhaps your cavalier could be in service to one of the goodly deities of Silverymoon?

The gods listed as having major temples in Silverymoon are:

Oghma and Milil (shared temple)
Helm
Mielikki
Lathander
Selūne

And though she has no shrines or temples in the city, every copse of trees in Silverymoon is considered to be sacred to Lurue the Unicorn, and the city (which is named after her) is the spiritual center of her faith.

11-10-03, 06:37 PM There are also Aristocrats within Silverymoon and every other City in the Region. It's a medieval fantasy world. Someone has to rule and run the City councils and advise Kings. The Dm actually should provide you with some NPC Lord's to approach for Patronage.

11-12-03, 12:47 AM Other than the requirements Knight-Errant of Silverymoon is actually very flexible. You do pretty much what you want and just report in every once and a while. If you want to go and fight demons at Hellgate Keep you can, if you want to go to the Spine of the World and fight orcs you can, if you want to help clean up the Evermoors you can. Basically its up to your DM but as rwriten its supposed to be flexible.
