Character Background Feedback [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-05-03, 12:59 AM I was developing the background for my new character and was looking for some feedback, positive, negative, feasibility. Even ways to write it up would be welcome. Here is what I have so far:

albino drow without the daylight adaptation feat. The lack of any pigment makes it nearly impossible to adapt to the sunlight conditions as many of his brethren have. His mother was struck by a magical attack during a surface raid and was forced into labor. Retreating from the conflict she gave birth several hours later only to realize that the child was an aberration and was quickly discarded and left to perish from the elements.

The child was come upon by a member of the defending party and was looked upon as unique and as a sign of something special, a blessing or a portent.The child was sent to Waterdeep to be raised with a prominant elven family and quickly grew in wisdom and agility, though left somewhat weak from his newborn ordeal. He knows of his true heritage, though it isn't physically apparent to the untrained casual observer. He appears to be a very pale, almost ghostly white moon elf. ( Among his friends and family he is known as the ghost who walks for his ghostlike countenance and uncanny adroit stealth. )

The experienced adventurer who takes too much interest may note something peculiar about him and guess his true heritage. To avoid this, he keeps to himself in public and around strangers, always shrouded in thick cloaks and many layers of clothes as much to avoid the sun as the over curious eye of the passing stranger.

He quite understands the reputation of his heritage and the reasons why he was abandoned. It is his abondonment that drives him to ever be the moral paragon, to be different from his kin. At the same time he seeks to be superior to his kin by developing the innate abilities that few of his race posses and extending those abilities beyond the norm. It is the cruelty and visciousness of his kin that spurrs him to be morally opposite and physically superior to others of his race.

So that is the background, probably a fighter/rogue or fighter/ranger, not sure how the 3.5 ranger is going to come out so there might be a change there. Mostly focusing on the fighter though to take advantage of the many feats. Would like to aspire to the tempest PrC but I kind of have some problems with the mechanics of that one, but again, we'll have to see how some of those issues are dealt with in 3.5.

07-09-03, 09:22 PM I would just have to give him some cool spell-like and supernatural abilites but some Mega negitives in sunlight and I would probably make him a rogue something and his mag abilites would make him the prefect character and good campaign starter I thinks it's a great idea and I hope I provide some decent input.

07-09-03, 09:39 PM He didn't take the daylight adaptation feat and won't. At some point he will take the blindsight feat ( he has high enough wisdom) to compensate for not taking the daylight adaptation. By the time I get him all the feats I want him to have, he may be 15th level. Yikes. Thanks for the input. Thats the direction I was going.

So on a serious note.
The Rogue angle would definitely be the path I would take for him, as he would probably favour the night (no sun, less questions etc..). Multiclass if you like but I would definitely go Rogue.

Oh and call him "Christopher Walker". Nickname "Kit".

I was just joking around.

The Ghost Who Walks bit would probably be fine in most game groups. Has a good catchy ring about it.
However, having been brought up reading Phantom comics since, well since I could read, I just instantaneously made that connection.
And then unfortunately got a really bad image of Billy Zane in that appaling movie from a couple years back.

So is this Elven family that raised him socially active? And if so how did this impact on his childhood etc...?
What activities did he get into to become who he is today?

And he did have purple spandex long before Billy wore them. And it wasn't THAT apallilng.

I was thinking something more like Wraith....those red eyes kind of look evil.

She'll probably hate you for it at some stage.
But then again I hated my parents for my cruel name of fate when at school. (Yes that is my real first name next to the pretty pic)
Kids can be so cruel. :(

But now... Proud as punch of my name and heritage. *strut*

Beats being called John Smith I guess.

As luck would have it tho I met another guy called Conan about a month ago at a party my girlfriend dragged me along to. First for everything I guess.
