| dangerdude6907-01-06, 01:32 PM | I'm trying to find any edition's stats for Midnight, Kelemvor, Cyric, and Adon so i can do a kind of "Back to the Future" type adventure for my guys here in Iraq. I'm not coming up with anything good from Google, and I figure it would be a little too old to find on the WotC site. Thanks! |
| Burpcycle07-01-06, 01:44 PM | Well, you could guess it yourself. Midnight was clearly a powerful NG wizard (25+). I think Kelemvor used to be a LG paladin but became LN as a necessity after becoming a god. Cyric I would imagine would be the most powerful of them all (Godsbane would have to be like a +10 sword at least, Mask was a greater diety), probably a fighter/rogue or something. Elminster was important in the ToT but his stats are all over the place. |
| FineasBoggs07-01-06, 03:14 PM | According to the Shadowdale Module, Ariel Manx was a 7th level magic user, Kelemvor Lyonsbane, a 5th level fighter, Cyric, a 3rd level fighter, 5th level thief, and Adon a 5th level cleric. Through the series, Midnight is the only one who gains and levels of significance. Cyric gains one or two fighter levels, but that is it. |
| Tevin Kevlak07-01-06, 03:54 PM | Yeah, I've read the books and none of them seem to have any insane power the likes of which Burpcycle was suggesting. If Midnight were indeed a level 25 wizard many of the encounters they faced she could out fight entire bands of monsters without resorting to any magic, d4 hit die and 1/2 b.a.b. and all... |
| Davidw07-01-06, 06:26 PM | I'm sure I read somewhere that Godsbane was a +4 weapon. Not quite +10. ;) |
| baitmask07-03-06, 07:26 AM | Believe it or not, Adon of Sune was statted as Adon of Mystra in the 2nd Ed. Forgotten Realms Product, Heroes Lorebook (or somesuch similar title) without a doubt, he was the least powerful of the characters, and his lack of ascention firmly shows that. alas, the write up of him in the lorebook made me fall in love with his badass faithfullness, becomming the first cleric of the newly anointed Mystra. As far as i can recall, Midnight's spells came to her haphazardly, but i'm sure she fired off a couple 3rd level spells. did she use anything resembling anything higher in the trillogy? it's been a decade or so since i last read the novels, so my estimates are sketchy at best, but if you can get your hands on the heroes lorebook, therein you'll find a good place to start. Adon. god love him. -Bait the DM |
| Myssa Rei07-03-06, 07:58 AM | Well, since Midnight was able to cast a hemisphere-like wall of force spell to protect the party from the magical backlash that was released when Helm killed Mystra, then it comes to say that she does advance quite a few levels. Also, there is the fact that, in the battle at Waterdeep against Myrkul's avatar, she was able to cast a disintegrate spell... |
| baitmask07-03-06, 08:07 AM | i forgot about those two spells. thanks! yeah, i agree, of course cyric advanced in a few levels, and obviously Kelemvor experienced some changes as well, but my money is on Midnight as the character that saw the most levels advance in that campaign. oh wait, these were novels....crap. |
| CyperionTheShadeBlade07-05-06, 11:11 AM | Midnight did also use Prismatic Sphere, and Permanency, at a time |
| Kessalin Talira07-05-06, 02:08 PM | She was also wearing the pendant that had a shred of Mystra's divine essence in it, which gave her quite a boost in ability. Fineas has the stats pretty much right, they weren't really that powerful a group. |
| Darth K'Trava07-06-06, 08:56 PM | Believe it or not, Adon of Sune was statted as Adon of Mystra in the 2nd Ed. Forgotten Realms Product, Heroes Lorebook (or somesuch similar title) In Hall of Heroes, he's statted as a 5th level cleric of Sune. In Heroes Lorebook, he's statted as a 9th level cleric of Mystra. without a doubt, he was the least powerful of the characters, and his lack of ascention firmly shows that. alas, the write up of him in the lorebook made me fall in love with his badass faithfullness, becomming the first cleric of the newly anointed Mystra. One tends to be when separated from their god/goddess. He went around feeling useless as a result. At one point, after his "little" talk, I thought he'd become a follower or cleric of Torm. It certainly could've led to that.... -Bait the DM It's been awhile since I'd read the books as well. I liked Adon as well. The most maligned character of the bunch. Felt rather sorry for him as a result. Couldn't stand Cyric; he was too much of an ass. I liked Kelemvor and Midnight was meh for me. I guess I spent all the time liking Adon.... :D |
| ElGrecoETAC07-06-06, 09:52 PM | It all depends on what era you're looking to play. Prior to the Time of Troubles, the stats from the 1E Hall of Heroes--like some others posted already--go like this: Adon--NG human male 5th lvl cleric of Sune Firehair Cyric--LE human male 3rd lvl fighter/5th lvl thief Kelemvor--LN human (lycanthrope; werepanther) 5th lvl fighter Midnight--LN human female 7th lvl magic-user Interestingly enough, two of the most powerful deities in current Faerun (Cyric and Kelemvor) would not have been guaranteed any sort of meaningful afterlife--neither had a chosen deity, per se. |
| GothicDan07-06-06, 10:06 PM | Adon was my favorite. All of the rest went from meh to GAH. |
| Darth K'Trava07-07-06, 05:48 PM | Adon was my favorite. All of the rest went from meh to GAH. I agree there. Cyric made me want to reach into the book and kick his arse myself! None of the others had all the angst and crap hit the fan stuff like Adon had... and what a crappy way to get rid of him..... that was UGH! |
| Nerf_Samurai07-12-06, 05:26 AM | I think that 5th-7th level would be about right. There was no mention of them having magical gear in the start of the story, and Midnight made a big deal out of losing Plant Growth when her spell book was burned by halfling refugees(that was before she found that she could cast any arcane spell ever created without components). She had also only heard rumors of Bigby's Hand spells. (I've read the books fairly recently) |
| Kenzuki07-12-06, 07:50 PM | I seriously wonder how such a weak character (Cyric) could have killed the Avatar of the God of Death (Bhaal), weapon or no weapon. How the hell can you recreate that in game terms....??? Adon was my favorite as well, I hated Cyric's guts. :D |
| Darth K'Trava07-12-06, 08:50 PM | I seriously wonder how such a weak character (Cyric) could have killed the Avatar of the God of Death (Bhaal), weapon or no weapon. How the hell can you recreate that in game terms....??? I don't think you can. No matter the edition. Adon was my favorite as well, I hated Cyric's guts. :D My agreement as well. :D |
| Lord shadow3507-12-06, 09:35 PM | I loved cyric. He was a good character and a genius. Adon was a crybaby, I really did feel for midnight, Kelemvor was dumb he played his part wel. The BDF! |
| Aaron L07-13-06, 03:45 PM | Cyric was the only one worth a damn. The rest were whiny, hypocritical, or just boring. And my god, Storm in those books made me hate her. So very dearly hate her. Horrible *****. |
| GothicDan07-13-06, 04:33 PM | I only hated Kelemvor more than Cyric. :) |
| Kenzuki07-13-06, 05:33 PM | The fact that I actually hated Cyric shows he must be a good villan. The best villans are often times the ones you can personally hate as if they were real. Yeah, Kelemvor was like some big Fabio dude who had problams commiting. I was like "You idiot, tell her the truth!" Still, I think Bhaal made a better god of murder and assassins. |
| GothicDan07-13-06, 05:50 PM | Kelemvor? Fabio? Er.. No. :) As to Cyric, I hated his character, not his villainous actions per se. A villain that I hate as a villain is Cersei from A Song of Ice and Fire. :) |
| Yokinobu07-13-06, 11:55 PM | I admit to feeling sorry for Adon, the others couldn't understand the pain and hopelessness of feeling that She who you live for has turned her back on you. That's why Kelemvor ****** me off when he badgered him about it, but I thought he was cool after he became a LN deity(K is still one of my favs). I also found that I hated Cyric the human, as well as Cyric the mad deity. Besides that, Gond dissappointed me with the whole killing his worshippers thing. And near the end of the series I was kinda hoping that idiot Malik would find himself in the treads of a giant's boot. And my god, Storm in those books made me hate her. So very dearly hate her. Horrible *****. I didn't like her either. At that point she joined the Simbul as my most hated of the Chosen. |
| GothicDan07-14-06, 02:29 AM | You hate the Simbul? *<3's the Simbul* But then, I truly am attracted to shows of wild magical power. If I wasn't gay, I totally would have drooled over Galadriel in the LotR movie. ;) And I still hate Kel more than Cyric, mostly because he is defined almost solely through his hatred of Undead - almost like TSR tried took the anti-gods of death who like undead idea a little too far, to the point that he became extremely one-dimensional. Especially considering unintelligent Undead were traditionally Neutral and could even be used by Good clerics, and he doesn't hate any other beings that we know of who 'unnaturally' extend their lifespan. I guess in a world of magic it's hard for me to think of anything as 'unnatural.' I tend to think that Druids seek a balance of things more than a natural way of things, since that applies better to them on a cosmological point of view (which the highest level ones tend to take). |
| Yokinobu07-14-06, 03:25 AM | Perhaps "hated" was a little extreme. There is nothing that I can say about her without someone who has over-analyzed every single novel containing even the briefest of her cameo appearances refuting every point I make, but let's just say that to me she comes off as this unstoppable "bad cop" bad ass who FR fans are supposed to like because she is considered a hero, and who will never be defeated for that same reason, all the while maintaining a chaotic whimsy and the beauty of a goddess, (minus the disheveled look)which seems to be fundamental for any fantasy heroine. But after reading a few other books, I admit to softening up on Storm quite a bit at least. Anyway, I agree that Kelemvor is very one-dimensional and predictable because of his undead hatred. Even Lathander seems a little less single-minded in that regard. I don't really even see why it's a problem. Don't you have to die to become undead? And the unnatural lifespan thing...I don't know, seems like if he had a problem with that, he would have a problem with the Chosen. Seems like he should have an army of Maruts backing him as he is the epitome of their existance. Cyric I hated before I read the novels. With just about every evil deity, I can find something I like, but with him, I can't find anything. In fact, he pretty much represents everything I hate about evil deities. Besides the fact that as a human he was a jerk, and I can't help but to judge him based on my personal reaction to him if I were any of those character he tried to walk on. |
| stanleyx200207-15-06, 04:37 PM | I hated Midnight, she was too...blissfully good for my liking. Kelemvor just didn't appeal to me in any way. Adon, I really liked AFTER his abandonment of Sune, found his character quite interesting after that, he was like a new guy. Then there's Cyric...well, Cyric is my favorite out of the whole group, he's just sooooo badass. And as for Adon and the gang going through suffering and pain and all that, what about Cyric? He had a horrible life as I remember, and the only way for him to be happy with his life was to do those things he did. It's almost a noble cause, i guess. Sure he's evil and all, but he just wants to change his past and be happy before he dies. Cyric as a deity I liked even more. No particular reason why, I just did. That probably wasn't very constructive to the thread but I noticed all the hate on Cyric and had to make my feelings heard. Hmm, and yes, they weren't that high level. Midnight got her spells and such from the power of Mystra, they never really fought anything too tough, and Cyric killed Bhaal because he's badass and it was meant to happen. Malik was interesting at best and Storm, well I despise Storm. |
| Kenzuki07-15-06, 09:45 PM | You think all of what Cyric did was noble? |
| stanleyx200207-16-06, 02:17 AM | Of course not, not the stuff he DID. Just his main goal. And I didn't really mean 'noble', I jsut couldn't think of a better word at the moment. |
| Mythrus07-18-06, 03:54 PM | I seriously wonder how such a weak character (Cyric) could have killed the Avatar of the God of Death (Bhaal), weapon or no weapon. How the hell can you recreate that in game terms....??? Adon was my favorite as well, I hated Cyric's guts. :D I believe it was because mask was impersonating Cyrics sword at the time which if that situation presented itself to Mask then I'm sure he would lend some of his divine might inorder to kill Bhaal. Like most of the people on this subject it's also been awhile since I read the books also. hehe so I might be wrong =P Mythrus |
| TheFallenOne07-18-06, 09:41 PM | whatever happened to midnight. i dont see here as any kind of god or demigod. Did she die? |
| GothicDan07-18-06, 09:51 PM | ... Midnight is Mystra. |
| Yokinobu07-18-06, 09:52 PM | She ascended to become the new Mystra. |
| Tallow07-22-06, 02:21 PM | Believe it or not, Adon of Sune was statted as Adon of Mystra in the 2nd Ed. -Bait the DM She fired off a prismatic sphere once... but that was Mystra's power working through her, or rather from within her. But yeah, the old 2nd ed modules named after the books of the trilogy, stated all the characters. |
| Tallow07-22-06, 02:23 PM | Well, since Midnight was able to cast a hemisphere-like wall of force spell to protect the party from the magical backlash that was released when Helm killed Mystra, then it comes to say that she does advance quite a few levels. Also, there is the fact that, in the battle at Waterdeep against Myrkul's avatar, she was able to cast a disintegrate spell... These weren't really levels per say though. It was mystra's raw magical essense working from within Midnight. Midnight essentially became Mystra's Avatar in the time of troubles. She didn't really gain any levels, but had all these cool spells she could use, because of Mystra's essense within her. |
