| lvgreen10-30-04, 03:03 AM | I have just gotten the Shining South book, and there is a bit that I can't quite understand. When the Drow conquered Dambrath, apparantly they had the aid of 112 half-elf priestesses of Loviatar. Why were all the priestesses of Loviatar half-elves? They must have been close enough to the Dmbrath humans in order to make such a difference in the war. And they co-operated with Drow!?! Is there any explanation for this?? Like, um, they were all half-aquatic-elves, and they were in constant pain out of the sea so they naturally migrated to worshipping the Maiden of Pain. Actually, that might work. From what I recall, during the Crown Wars Aquatic Elves weren't really involved in the banishing of the Drow. |

| warlockco10-30-04, 07:40 AM | the half elves where Half-DROW From my understanding of the material the Original Half-Elf Followers of Loviatar weren't Half-Drow. |
| lvgreen10-31-04, 04:11 AM | From my understanding of the material the Original Half-Elf Followers of Loviatar weren't Half-Drow. That was my distinct impression also, which is why I was asking. To quote from p101 of Shining South The Crinti of Dambrath come from widely varied bloodlines. Nine in ten are descended from unions between the drow of T'lindhet and their human slaves or paramours. The rest can actually trace their bloodlines to one of the First - the 112 half-elf priestesses of Loviatar who brokered the deal to rule Dambrath on behalf of the Drow. Known as Children of the First,..., though their ancestry may contain more human than elf or drow blood. |

An original Shining South book? Did it give any explanation as to why the priestesses of Loviatar were all half-elves, within one step of LE? And why they and Drow would co-operate? What sort of surface-dwelling half-elves were they? Moon, Gold, Aquatic, Wild, Avarial, etc? |
| ruleslawyer11-01-04, 07:16 PM | The impression I get, from reading FR16 The Shining South by Tom Prusa (the 2e reference on this) is that the original Crintri weren't from Dambrath at all. They were foreigners, and not of Arkaiun stock. Besides, they were evil. So, there's no reason why they would have had any ties to the local humans, any more than the Zhentarim feel compunctions about trading with the drow beneath Shadowdale. |
| lvgreen11-01-04, 10:58 PM | Interesting. So there is no official answers to any of the questions I asked. So I can make up my own answers should I set a campaign in the Shining South without fear of contradiction. Maybe I will use that first wild thought that the First were half-aquatic elves (probably in exile from elsewhere). But then I would have to have an answer as to what the result of a half-drow and half-aquatic-elf hybrid would be like. Thanks |

No WOTC hasn't said that that is so but when the author says something like that well.... :) |

No WOTC hasn't said that that is so but when the author says something like that well.... :) Although it may not be canon, much of it is the same(or very close) to the original Shining South(FR16) source. It does go a long ways in answering the original question posted above though. We have looked at just about everything that has to do with the Shining South, in particular Dambrath, over the last 3 years. We run a NWN server that is set in the Shining South/Dambrath with multiple DMs and a good core group of players. Fell free to give us a look if you want: The Shining South NWN World (http://www.shiningsouth.com) |

It does go a long ways in answering the original question posted above though. I'm just pointing out what the author who wrote that article said. She said it's not canon according to her but WOTC has never said that it is or is not. However, again in my opinion, when the author of said piece says such they have a reason why they say that. :) She even mentioned there is errors in it that conflict with the old material. |
| larnak11-05-04, 02:50 PM | Aye, in an email to us, she said as much about the spelling and date discrepancies. ;) Although this is not canon it is a good place to start for a general understanding, it is always best to find official sources when possible. Thanks for the info Kuje31. :) |
