| nightside_samurai11-12-07, 12:34 AM | I'm going to be playing a character that is a blend of a stereo-typical "Chosen" and the late great Blackstaff. I wanted to find some good threads that discussed the Chosen, not only the "fluff" but also the "crunch" about templates, powers, and such that would help recreate a Chosen of Khelben's power when he was still young and not in his full power. Any suggestions for good long threads that discuss this topic in length? Thanks :) * I've checked the search but I couldn't find anything. |
| Lord Karsus11-12-07, 12:42 AM | -Well, there isn't a stereotypical Chosen. They're all a bunch of characters (literally!). Anyway, the Chosen of Mystra template can be found in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. |
| Dark Wizard11-12-07, 12:45 AM | The stat blocks for the various chosen can be found scattered all over. Elminster, Khelben, Alustriel Storm and the Simbul are in the FRCS as well as a modified version in the Epic Level Handbook. Laeral is in City of Splendors: Waterdeep. |

Khelben was all "tall, dark, and handsome" and I wanted to portray the silver haired fair figure that the female chosen often show. Thanks for the tips on the books. I'll look at the sources you mentioned :) |
| nightside_samurai11-12-07, 01:07 AM | Wow!!1!12 That template is teh broken in the extreme. +10 to Con?!?! I think I'll have to work with the DM to homebrew the mechanics of that one. |
| Dark Wizard11-12-07, 01:20 AM | Don't forget you're also taking the ECL for it as well, so technically the DM has to challenge you with enemies about 4 CR (I think at least that much according to the book) beyond your actual level. |
| Stigger11-12-07, 01:33 AM | Seems a bit ambitious to me, but hey, good luck with it. I'd check out the Blackstaff novel, it has a few scenes of the young Khelben... there was a fairly good source for information on him in his younger days that went into a bit of detail as to what drove him, but I'll be damned if I can recall what it was, though I know Blackstaff went into it a bit too. |

It is a pretty big project but it's a solo game online so I'll have some leeway on how the character develops since I won't have to worry about other players getting upset about it. Yeah I loved that book :) Good ending too (I like deaths of major characters at the end of novels). I'm basically going off of a scene I remembered that he looks like some kind of Elf-blooded dragon thing. I was thinking of a Dragonborn Elf Wizard and then mixing things up with Prestige classes that fit my vision for the character. Am I getting him confused with someone else? |
| Stigger11-12-07, 01:39 AM | That sounds strangely like the small bit of the City of Splendors novel I read, but as I never bought it, much less read it, I couldn't really say. |

| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-12-07, 07:35 PM | Oh I know :D I meant to say the stereotypical appearance. Khelben was all "tall, dark, and handsome" and I wanted to portray the silver haired fair figure that the female chosen often show. The Seven Sisters are silver-haired, but I think that has more to do with their shared parentage (they are daughters of Mystra herself) than the simple fact that they are Chosen. There are other female Chosen of Mystra, and they aren't necessarily silver-haired. |

He's a quarter elf, but I don't recall him being dragonborn or anything! |
| nightside_samurai11-13-07, 01:43 AM | Who is this, Khelben? He's a quarter elf, but I don't recall him being dragonborn or anything! I can't quite recall where I read it. I thought that there was intense spellcasting going on and some kind of illusion fell for a brief moment. But I might have been thinking of something else. |

But I might have been thinking of something else. Like I said, Khel is 1/4th elf, but he doesn't have any draconic heritage (or, it hasn't been considered important enough to mention). |
| Storm_Silverhand11-15-07, 05:03 PM | Heya, I can't quite recall where I read it. I thought that there was intense spellcasting going on and some kind of illusion fell for a brief moment. But I might have been thinking of something else. Laeral sees him during his spellcasting right at the start of City of Splendors, the exact words are "ageless, elf-blooded, feral as a rampant dragon, barely recognizable as a mortal being." This doesn't mean he looks like a dragon, it only means he look as "feral" as a "rampant dragon"... It'd be like saying "feral as a wild cat". |

Thanks for clearing it up :) |
