Cleric of Tempus a Question [Archive] - Wizards Community

There's another one that I've been hearing about, though, in the Complete Divine book. The War Priest? You might want to check it out. I don't know the specifics, though. Maybe someone else could give info on that?

10-04-04, 04:44 PM I belive the Battleguard is the best PrC for you. Of course, you won't progress in spells every level, but it is the only Tempus PrC there is.

I can't recall what is in Complete Divine. Has the Warpriest been changed much? I recall it used to be popular.

Personally, I've found that clerics should just stick with the core cleric class. You get great spells and benifits with each progression. Sure, it may not be as exciting as other classes, but that is the nature of the cleric. You may gain a cool ability or two, but when the party is all banged up and needs healing, they turn to you and usually expect you to heal them up.

10-05-04, 01:44 PM Just take one level in fighter so you can use martial weapons, take the bonus feat, and continue as a cleric from there. I wouldn't mess with prestige class unless each level grants you +1 to existing spellcasting class.

10-06-04, 11:17 AM I've downloaded the BattleGuard Template and it looks very solid. I just have one newbie question though. What does it mean when you get +1 Divine Spellcaster Level each time you take a level in the prestige class?

BTW- I was definitely going to take a level of fighter to get the use of Martial Weapons and a bonus feat.

10-06-04, 03:19 PM +1 Divine Spell Level means that you gain spells as if you gained a level in the divine caster class of your choice (that you have levels in already). In other words, if you are a druid/cleric and you gain a level of warpriest with +1 Divine Caster level, you have a decision to make. You can gain spells as if you gained another level of cleric OR as if you gained a level of druid. If you are only a cleric with a level or two of fighter, then you just gain a spell casting level of cleric. It is only worded that way in case there is some crazy combo of classes where you have a choice.

In other words, if you are a cleric 5 / fighter 1 / warpriest 1, and you gain a level of warpriest that gives +1 caster level, you become cleirc 5/fighter 1/warpriest 2, but you can cast spells as if you were a lvl 6 cleric. This means that your caster level counts as 6 and you also get the number of spells per level as if you were level 6.
