| Valgard05-28-04, 01:15 PM | I'd like to begin a debate but I don't know where to post it, so I'm posting it here because involves matters between the non-Realms and the Realms comrades, so WizO's... you know what you have to do. The question is: SHOULD THE COMPLETE DIVINE'S WEB-ENHANCEMENT DID NOT INCLUDE THE DWEOMERKEEPER AND NIGHTCLOAK PRESTIGE CLASSES AND PUT THE REVISED VERSIONS IN A FUTURE FR SOURCEBOOK? OR SHOULD THEY ONLY SAY WHERE THEY COME FROM? OR NOTHING OF THESE AT ALL? |
| Mystery Man05-28-04, 01:26 PM | i have no official opinion! |

I for one do not agree that Quasi-"Core" Classes or PrC should get names and features of full-time FR PrC. I don't have anything against classes being copied for general gamers outside FR, but as it is now we will end up with the FR versions and updated general classes with the same name but ... e.g. no shadow feats / Shar links for the Nightcloaks. Now I can imagine people who would like to play the normal CD Nightcloak rather than the Shar FR version in the Realms and while there's always the easy option to allow both, I would have preferred not to be put into that position in the first place. Nightcloaks are for the Realms and should be updated for the Realms, not 3RE'ed for the general public without a mentioning of the background. But that's just me ... |
| Tainted One05-28-04, 11:21 PM | The only difference between the CD nightcloak and the FR nightcloak is the skill list (eg. removing scry skill etc), the removal of the shar-specific class abilities (only 2 or 3 I think), and the req or evil domain instead of darkness (darkness domain is FR only). IMO, I would use the FR nightcloak but with the updated skill list. The dweomerkeeper, on the other hand, is completely different and it seems like they striped all the FR goodness out of it, but some of the new abilities fit well with the concept of the class. I have to agree that I don't like the idea of FR specific stuff ending up in core books (the Red Wizard in DMG, Thayan Knight in CW and Black Flame Zealot in CW seemed ok because they left in the FR stuff, and Archmage etc, are generic enough to fit in the core books). I think there are FR Prc's that need updating, but by putting them in core books, you strip them of the FR flavor which makes them special. |

I'd far rather see all FR prc's show up in generic books with a more detailed description of how to adapt them to the realms. This allows people who aren't interested in the realms to use them (which they seem to do) and means that FR books can use the pages dedicated to prc's to give us even more fluff about the realms themselves.
