Concerning the Abyss [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-23-06, 06:15 PM Hello everyone, im currently creating a character, that happens to be a lord of a layer in the abyss. Now I'd love to be as by the book as possible on his, strengths/weakness's and so on. So could anyone give me any information they can spare, or give me the titles of some referance books I can purchase and look through?

07-23-06, 06:18 PM There's no easy templates or stats for being an Abyssal Lord. They are, by definition, utterly Chaotic, so their powers are going to vary.

However, if you want some examples of Abyssal Lords, their politics, their history, etc., Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss is by far your best resource, and one of the best books to print.

And if you want to learn more about Abyssal Lords and the Abyss in general, I recommend the 2E products Faces of Evil: The Fiends and Planes of Chaos, both of which were 2E Planescape supplements. Planescape is sort of the epitome of all things planar, and tends to have a lot more flavor than modern books.

07-23-06, 07:22 PM I would also, obviously, recommend the Epic Level Handbook if you don't want to be overthrown by your "neighbors" or assassinated by your underling demons in the first 5 minutes of gameplay. ;)

07-23-06, 07:57 PM Yeah, that's a valid point. The Abyssal Lords in Hordes of the Abyss are specifically lower CR than they should be - so that DMs can advance them to the appropriate level for their game, via whatever methods they want to. For instance, for Grazzt, one may want to give him Rogue levels, or Shadowcrafter levels, or Shadowdancer levels, or Sorcerer levels, or just advance his Outsider Hit Dice.

But each still has a few neat abilities specific to them, so you can get an idea of just what kind of things Abyssal Lords are all about. :)
