Conflictions between current edition Sourcebooks [Archive] - Wizards Community

In reading some of the Sourcebooks available for FR I have noticed a few discrepancies between them.

Eg. 1. Orogs. One Sourcebook listed them as a cross between Ogres and Orcs - pretty much a halfbreed race. (This book was Faiths and Pantheons and the info on Orogs is mentioned briefly in Ilneval's entry). However, Races of Faerun names Orogs as a particularly strong type of orc that hails from the Underdark, not as a crossbreed.

Eg. 2. Deities, a paragraph at the end of Faiths and Pantheons states that any Deity not mentioned on the table given opposite or in the FRCS does not exist in Toril. However, again, in Races of Faerun under the Shou entry there is mentioned the Gods of Kara Tur - The Celestial Buereocracy.

So, which entry do we accept? Do the newer Sourcebooks overwrite any contradictory information in the older sourcebooks? or do we accept each point as equally valid?

....Eg. 1. Orogs
--Well one book says they are crossbreeds, one says they are from the Underdark. No discrepancies there. They are simply a strong orc crossbreed from the Underdark. In this case it's not said in one that they are crossbreeds and in another book they are not. I do think the idea of strong orcs with 'giant' blood goes all the way back to 1E.

....Eg. 2. Deities
--This is naturaly one of thoes thoughless blanket statements you should just ignore. When ever a book says something like this it's just plain wrong. It's never a good idea to say 'there are only 50 diviners in the world', for example. Even if it was true the second you said it(assuming you could see everything all over the world)...it would change.
Somewhere came the idea that there were 'too many gods', so they have tried to cut down the number of gods. Of course this brings in endless problems as everyone must now follow only the listed gods. And we know of lots of other gods active on Toril.

There is an easy fix. In the back of F&A change the word 'Toril' to 'Fareun'. And add the line----'Theas listed gods are the ones primarlty worshiped by most intelligent beings on Toril, however they may well be other lesser known isolated gods, as well as minor cult types.
