| Delerat03-05-08, 06:35 PM | I'm a little confused, when 4th edition picks up, will it be 10 years after the Spell Plague hits or 100 years in the future? Thanks for any help or info you can help me on this. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit03-05-08, 06:38 PM | 100, Good Sir. |
| Shiftkitty03-06-08, 12:39 AM | I've counted 10 in their timeline. Where is everyone getting the other 90? I admit I don't crawl around the place into every nook and cranny. I've only read two "Countdown to the Realms" articles. Are there others? The two I have give the impression that things will pick up at the 10 year mark. |
| Mr. Wilson03-06-08, 01:00 AM | The latest article, "The Wailing Years", leads us to believe the setting is 100 years in the future. |
| gomeztoo03-06-08, 01:54 AM | The first article, 'Year of the Ageless One', is pretty specific, really. The last article is also quite specific: it explains how to run a game in the first ten years after the spell plague, should you like to. It even tells you how to move your party forward in time until all changes have settled. |
| Old Sage03-06-08, 02:29 AM | Pgs. 158-159 of Grand History of the Realms briefly detail events over the next ten years -- to the time of 1385 DR ['Year of Blue Fire']. The 4e FR campaign begins in 1479 DR -- 'Year of the Ageless One' -- approximately 94 years from the present campaign year of 1375/76 DR. |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 07:08 AM | I've counted 10 in their timeline. -The timeline has not moved forward at all. The current year is 1375 DR, as per AGHotR. -The 4e Forgotten Realms will take place in 1385 DR. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-06-08, 11:49 AM | Actually, the 4E FRCG will be set in 1479 DR, as per the article Sage mentioned. 1385 DR is when the Spellplague actually hits, though. And of course, there's nothing to stop people from setting their game whenever they want. |

| Shiftkitty03-06-08, 01:06 PM | I never read that article. My lousy job actually expects me to get work done!:nonono: :D Anybody got a link to it? (Year of the Ageless One, that is.) |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 01:11 PM | I never read that article. My lousy job actually expects me to get work done!:nonono: :D Anybody got a link to it? (Year of the Ageless One, that is.) -Here's links to all three: Year of the Ageless One (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20080111a) Magic in the Forgotten Realms (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20080130a) Spellplague: The Wailing Years (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20080227a) |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-06-08, 07:07 PM | -I meant 1485, actually. But, I was still wrong, so...:shifty: That's not off by too many years, though, so you were close.;) |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 07:15 PM | -Close, but no cigar...:( |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-06-08, 07:27 PM | -Close, but no cigar...:( No, but who needs to smoke.;) |
| Lord Karsus03-06-08, 07:38 PM | -Very true. |
| Shiftkitty03-06-08, 09:17 PM | All right, what about "Close, but no massage"? Come on. Who'd say 'no' to a massage?;) Thanks for the links. I had the second two. But yep, it says it right there in the first line of the first acrticle, doesn't it? Hokey dokey! Now to pull the Forever Game a hundred years into it! Gonna be an all-nighter. :whatsthis  :whatsthis  :whatsthis :banghead:   :whatsthis :pint: :whatsthis  :D More smilies than I normally use, but that's probably going to be a pretty accurate heiroglyph as to how the night will go when I start in on it. |
| MarkusTay6303-06-08, 11:10 PM | Basically, what it boils down to is this - you can play in 3e FR for another ten years (give or take depending how close to the 'official year' you are), or you can switch over to 4e when it comes out and set your game in 1479 DR. Its all about choices, really, and Brian's recent article gave us a third alternative - playing through the Spellplague. |
| Lord Karsus03-07-08, 06:17 AM | All right, what about "Close, but no massage"? Come on. Who'd say 'no' to a massage?;) -Never heard that saying, but sure. Massages are good. Close, but no massage. Thanks for the links. -No problem. More smilies than I normally use, but that's probably going to be a pretty accurate heiroglyph as to how the night will go when I start in on it. -Not enough of these: '', ':waits:', ':raincloud', ':surrender', ':yuck:', ':bored:', ''. You can play 3e in 1485 DR. You can play 4e in 1385 DR. And so on... |

| MarkusTay6303-07-08, 07:17 PM | Well, yeah, but what I meant was that there are two, possibly three, 'official' choices as to how to continue your games. People were always able to do whatever the hell they liked - look at me, I RSE'd Thay years befor WotC did. :D Instead of an unscalable, reclusive Plateau, I turned it into an inpenatrable, Primordial Forest, but it all works out the same, eh? ;) Except I gained a Centaur Kingdom with my move. |
| Zsych03-08-08, 09:47 PM | Your characters can ignore the spellplague and still have the changes that are happening happen. I read Undead yesterday. Interesting, when they realize that Mystra has just been terminated. I hope Thay kinda survives though. Was a good place. Two Thays, one ruled by the zulkirs and one by Szass Tam seems a suitable situation to me really. |
| Lord Karsus03-09-08, 08:36 AM | I read Undead yesterday. Interesting, when they realize that Mystra has just been terminated. -That novel takes place in 1385+ DR!? |
| Zsych03-10-08, 01:56 AM | You find out early on that 10 years have just passed, and when I read that I thought, 'you mean right around the spell plague...', and then of course... |
| Dark Wizard03-10-08, 02:54 AM | You find out early on that 10 years have just passed, and when I read that I thought, 'you mean right around the spell plague...', and then of course... Hehe |
| Lord Karsus03-10-08, 09:35 AM | You find out early on that 10 years have just passed, and when I read that I thought, 'you mean right around the spell plague...', and then of course... -I miss the days when there was a steady and methodical passage of time...:surrender -What the hell is the point of an official present date (1375 DR) if no one pays attention to it? |

I was intrigued. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin03-10-08, 03:50 PM | -What the hell is the point of an official present date (1375 DR) if no one pays attention to it? Well, you know, the novel department wants to "get to the good stuff", of course. Why tell us about 10 years of war in Thay? I'm sure nothing interesting happened in Thay from 1375-1385 DR ( ). |
| Lord Karsus03-10-08, 04:51 PM | Why tell us about 10 years of war in Thay? I'm sure nothing interesting happened in Thay from 1375-1385 DR ( ). -Apparently not. Or the 100 +/- years from now until the 4e Realms begin. |
| Krash03-11-08, 11:46 PM | Instead of an unscalable, reclusive Plateau, I turned it into an impenetrable, Primordial Forest, but it all works out the same, eh? ;) Except I gained a Centaur Kingdom with my move. That's rather interesting considering I have a centaur kingdom there early in the history of the East. That is until they fall afoul of the gnoll kingdom of Yeheenargar. Which then of course leads to the Barking Wars with the centaurs' allies - the elves of Lethyr. Anywho nice to see people's wheels turning in the same direction.:) -- George Krashos |

Anywho nice to see people's wheels turning in the same direction. That was kinda the whole point - the Forest was brought forward from an earlier point in time, via my own personal RSE. I noticed the "Centaur Tribes" on the map in LEoF, and figured most of them probably became the ones in the Taan (from The Horde box). I also remember some stuff about native Centaurs in Thay from Red Magic novel. So, when I wanted a Centaur Kingdom, I brought one back, rather then just make one up. Hmmmm... I guess that makes me guilty of doing the same things I always complain about. :embarrass Thay's down in the Shaar now - Fits better there, right between Halruaa and Stygia. :P I don't like empty spaces... |
