I have been watching plenty of shows on Conspiracy theories like the Da Vinci Code, the Murder of Pope John Paul I and the history of the Masons.

My thought is what kind of Conspiracy theories might lead to a greater adventure? So I have started pour them out for review, to see if they can be expanded and to whom they might be believed.

1) The Murder of King Azoun IV

The base of this idea is that Vangderdast was behind the Devil Dragon and the ills of Cormyr, created for the purpose of putting a young heir on the throne. That he is using magic he couldn't use on Azoun to control the women guarding the baby.

The rumours of the strange magics that he is working on during his retirement might cause some to believe.

2) Clandestine Harpers/Moonstars

Just like how there is the True Free Masons and Clandestine Masons, there could be True Harpers and those using the Harper/Moonstar name to hid their true goals. Perhaps a cell of harpers that have become to attached to power, or some group like the Cult o' Dragon or the Zhents creating their own harper cells for their own purposes.

For example: A Harper with the Veil of Cyric feat within the Western group, who are not friendly with the moonstar, decides to collect certain harpers/harper allies to frame the moonstars for acts that bring disaster to different cities and kingdoms.

The Adventures might be Moonstars trying to keep their name clear or Harpers trying to prevent the corrupt of their organization.

Just some ideas that I wanted to share.

The Harper thing I had talked about in another thread, and in the Utter East thread we are working in the concept of The Nine Unknown Men (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_Unknown_Men), a clandestine eastern group similar in some ways to the euro-centric Illuminati.

In that thread I plan on connecting them to various other power groups throughout the realms, but nothing substantial - just rumaors. Thats what a really good conspiracey theory should have - no solid evidence of its existance. ;)

Vangerdehast loved Azoun (not in an unhealthy way), and it showed in novels, so it would be a little hard to swallow that take on him. It would be aesier to say the real Alusair was killed years ago (when she ran away from home), and a greater doppleganger took her place (thats who met Azoun during the Crusade). Since all royalty wears rings and amulates that prevent scrying, she would be safe from that sort of 'truth-telling' magic. When Azoun ran into his daughter, he never bothered to have her 'checked-out' - which means that is the perfect time for the swap to have taken place.

She is now in charge of the country, and if she is a Doppleganger, or worse, a Malaugrym, then she will never let the baby-king take the throne.

Thats a Realmsian-style conspiracey, not one of those over-done, beaten-to-death, evil advisor scenarios.

I have to admit that when the senior Harpers forced Khelben out, it stunk to high heaven. Perhaps he had gotten similar feelings about "those in charge", hmmmmmm? ;)

Thing is that WE know Vangey is a good person because we have seen into his head from the novels and world books from Wizard. The question is what the people of Faerun know. He is an obvious target for a conspiracy, especially with his foes.

I do like your consipiracy. To add to it, what if it was the Fey'ri who replaced Alusair or better yet what if it was Azoun V that has been replaced by a Fey'ri that is slowly growing up using their transformation power and ability to live a long time. Or both. What if that was why the kept out of the Elven Crusade or the events in Shadowdale?

Also fun is the idea of the Unseen in Waterdeep. What if one of the Hidden Lords is revealed to be a Doppelganger? How would that effect the government of the city if the head of government can't be trusted? Would it cause a war better the Lords, Nobles, Guilds and common peope?

Waterdeep: City of Splendours touched on the issue of trust between the Lords and the common people.
