I need help to convert Ironholm campaign to Faerun campaign. I am going to DM witchfire trilogy and I need to change all muskets, pistols, steam engines into something more magical. Any advice?

I used a gate to get my PC's into that series. Those steamjacks just took too much work for me to convert over in a way that the heroes would find believable.
I had to show them the 3 modules and say " If you wack her now, you don't get to play in the other two modules!" Boy! it was like a bunch of little kids saying " are we at the end YET?...I want to kill her...NOW!"
Gosh...I have never had such a hard time keeping a villain alive. My PC's did like the series, I think they thought Cyric was involved somehow :confused
Good luck with your conversion :) :

I don't know anything about Ironholm, so i can't say anything exactly.

Muskets used to be the old style guns, or so i recall. Replaced with a Magic Missile Wand.

Cannons replaced with smoke powder cannons.

Steam engines replaced by magical objects with permanent levitation spells to get things moving.

Maybe a primitive experimental mythallar to power magical devices of a limited level.

Selunatic can you tell how you converted some other stuff like those thrals(skeletons)?
All that you can remeber is welcomed.

For the thralls I just used standard zombies and skeletons with juju zombies for the lieutenants. It fits in an okay way and they were just swordfodder for the most part anyway.
With a goddess called Cyriss, the maiden of gears, my PC's promptly decided that Cyric must be trying to steal Gond's power [the modules were right next to my bed and I browsed them last night]. I used my best bluffing face and said " You sure figured that out fast!" I gave out an xp bonus and they were off on a crusade. That made the rest of the modules easier for me from that point due to some really bad blood between the heroes and the cyricists.
The blade Witchfire will need some really hard work to convert. [..or maybe not as I run a 1st/2nd edition campaign and you are 3.5.] since it gives the weilder some of the xp's from it's victims in the right circumstances. My group was so frustrated by the end of the final module they dumped witchfire's shards in a sphere of anhilation, slowly, so to make the sword suffer. That made me happy, as I really did not want that hellblade active in my version of the Realms.
The steamjacks I ended up treating like low end iron golems with an ac of 3 but needing a +1 or better to hit them. The temple full of gears pretty much freaked out my heroes who by the time they saw that father lucant techno thing they screamed when I showed them the picture and blasted it with so much fire power that I just gave up and let it die.
As Zsych said the guns and such can easily be converted and Thay has those bombards which are magical cannons...I think.
Hope I helped you out Jesenin :) I'll check in on this post later tomorrow and see if you have any other questions :plotting:

Firearms can be used in Faerun.
They exist, just not widely known.

Followers of Gond (especially Lantan) and some Gnomes would be the biggest users.

Guns in the Forgotten Realms?...

One step up, and you have machine guns... then it's time to go hunt Beholders and Dragons :)

Where (novels/sourcebooks)are they mentioned though?

The only difference in firearms in FR is that they use magical smokepowder instead of gunpowder.
Steam engines also exist in the Realms. Again, Lantan...gotta love them gnomes.

Forgotten Realms Adventures first introduced in 2E.

If you check the bonus equipment for some of the Regions in the PGtF, pistols are listed for Lantan: Human, and one of the Rock Gnome starting Regions.

Hello Jesenin, I hope you're out there and that I've helped you out.

I've been reading the witchfire trilogy modules and trying to remember what I could. I took the description of the Skorne, " tall and pale, angular features, tatoos, and more importantly...stronger than average human but no other unusual abilities " They have a 19 strength, 4d8+4 hp, and a neutral alignment. to me this pretty much suggested a gith variant of some kind as the picture kinda sorta looked like a bald githyanki in goth styled plate.
I was bothered by the str of 19, but the writeup only gave them a +4 on top of the longswords 1d8 for damage....does 3.5 have a diffrent bonus for a 19 strength? I do play 1st/2nd , so to me a 19 is a hill giant...
Anyway, the skorne warbeast...big dinosaur with a fort mounting many cannon on top, was easy to alter as a dungeon magazine had an adventure with a huge similar beast who also had a fort on his back...but I've lent that issue out and the dude can't find it now... :weep: if you've seen the last lord of the rings movie with the elephant things you can fake them pretty easy.

I hope I have been able to help you and not confuse you or anyone else reading this with my babbling. I'll check in later to see if you need anymore help from my memories. :D

That helped me a lot.Thanks. :D
But I need some names for Father and Judge. Fathers name is not Faerunic and Judges is barbaric. How many southlanders have Ulf in their names??
Anything you can remeber is going to be helpful, apsolutly everything.
Thank selutanic in advance.

Hello again!

I have to agree on the names subject...father dumas keeps bringing up alexander dumas and the three musketeers. While ulfas borlach does have a sorta realms flavor it really seems to fit somehere up in the northlands.

I always tell the local dm's in my town that the constant creation of new names is the hardest part of my job. I am in a constant state of awe regarding the ability of Ed Greeenwood to literally pour out new names in a tsunami-like torrent and to always have them fit the situatuation and locale seamlessly [Kuje if you are reading this please pass my kudos to Ed for me and I will be eternally gratefull ]

What I always do is to keep a notepad handy while watching tv, and if I see an interesting name...down it goes for future use. I have cheerfully lifted names from the credits of everything from sitcoms to History Channel and if my players have noticed, they are at least being polite and not teasing me about it. I read about this tactic somewhere but I can't remember where it came from.

One of my most memorable names was for a beholder the group met deep in the underdark...it's name was 25 letters long and had only 3 vowels :D When the heroes asked how it was pronounced I asked if they spoke beholder. Since I already knew they didn't I smiled and teased them about the dangers of mispronouncing something's proper name and how violent it may become :evillaugh .

For father dumas and good old ulfas... I'd suggest simply using a common name for the father since most clerics called father might be a local person who did good and came home to serve in their home town. As for ulfas, that name almost has a nasty imagery attached to it and that might give your heroes an initial gut reaction to him that he's no good. One idea might be that he was already an outlander and was hired as a junior member of the judiciary as they [the local government] believed that he would be more unbiased than a local citizen...Boy! was that a mistake!

Hope that this has helped you out Jesenin, sorry for the rambling guys! I didn't mean to get into war and peace mode

Done. :) I was going to ignore this thread but I'm glad I looked.

BTW, you can download the Ever Changing Book of Names and then the add on for FR names. :) Or use my NPC list, there's over 6,000 FR names in there and that list is in my sig.
