Alrunic Silverfyre 10-20-03, 12:11 AM	Well, our campaign is based in Cormyr and we have been playing there for the last three years real life time. We have all read the Cormyr novels, played Four from Cormyr, and basically memorized the landscape, history, and politics of the Forest Kingdom. Well...almost any Realms player worth his weight in dwarves could tell you that Cormyrians have a cat fetish. They are sacred; eyes of the gods. Well...one of the PCs accidentally ran over a cat with his horse (it wasn't pretty...) and was arrested by the Purple Dragon Guard. Now onto my questions: What is the punishment for hurting, killing or accidentally running over a cat? What are the laws regarding cats? The punishments? Any sources out there on this? If not, what is your opinion or/and house rule on this...rather obscure problem?
Ryltar Swordsong 10-20-03, 12:44 AM	The 2e Cormyr sourcebook mentions the treatment of cats in it's customs section, but it doesn't mention any laws regarding cats. If the pc accidentally killed the cat, he would probably only be required to compensate the owner. If it was a stray cat, he would only be frowned upon for his carelessness.

Well Cormyr does have a court system (check the Cormyr sourcebook) if he can prove it was a accident, then he probably won't be killed outright, but he probably would be exiled and never allowed back in and he might also be branded...... Yes, Cormyr is that uptight about thier cats. The Cormyr sourcebook says, they are not to be harmed in any way, this means they must not have thier ears, tail or even thier fur!, cut or clipped. They are not allowed to have thier sex organs removed either. Since all of these things if done to a cat in Cormyr, is an insult to the gods. In the Cormyr book it says clipping ears, fur, and tails is a great offense, and is the cause for ostracism of the offender.....
Morka 10-20-03, 08:35 AM	If cats are sacred in Cormyr, I would rather punish the person who let this poor cat run on the highway, not the knight who run over it! :smirk:

They are not to be caged, and they are allowed to well again run free. :) Since there are enough natural predators that it keeps the cat population at a equal level.
Gadodel 10-21-03, 07:04 AM	Actually, I would track down the Dog that was chasing the cat. I would find the Dog's owner and punish them, for allowing them letting their Dog roam free. I would also take the Horse to see a Druid or a Ranger for any counseling it may need.
