| Xidis01-29-04, 06:58 PM | Here is the event line for my campaign set in cormyr. This is my first campaign ever so tell me what you think. NOTE: Some ppl, or places my be missing or incorrect because i havent looked them up yet. Flow Chart of First Campaign 1. The PCs are summoned to Lord Thiombar’s chambers to discuss the orcish raids that have been going on. Lort Thiombar asks the PCs to venture into King’s Forest, and prevent any further raids. Lord Thiombar also asks the PCs to bring back the head of the orc responsible for these raids. 2. There are two main caves in the area around Dhedluk. The second cave visited contains the orc leader (Brb 3). The raids will only stop after the leader is killed. There are many other small caves that contain a random creature. 3. PCs clear out two main caves and return head of orc leader to Thiombar. Thiombar congragulates PCs and rewards them with XP and gold. Thiombar than asks the PCs to travel to Eveningstar to see if they are having any problems with the orcs. 4. PCs accept quest and embark to Eveningstar to see if there have been any problems with orcs. PCs will experience encounter or two on the way to Eveningstar. 5. Ruler of Eveningstar tells PCs there have been no orcish raids on his town, but he does tell them that some caravans have had troubles going to Arabel. Ruler asks PCs to escort next caravan. 6. Caravan leaves. About halway to destination, the caravan and PCs are attacked by orcs. A group of orcs grabs the caravan leader and some of his helpers while another group attack the PCs. PCs can continue to Arabel or help the caravan leader. 7. On successful arrival to arable, the PCs are congratulated and rewarded for escorting the first caravan to reach Arabel since the purging of the orcs. If PCs arrive without caravan or news of caravan, nothing happens. 8. Ruler of Arabel contacts PCs and congratulates them on stopping the raids in Dhedluk (news preceded them) and asks them to help her put an end to the orcs in the Kings Forest. Ruler tells PCs of a very large cave in the Kings Forest which is known to house many, many orcs or so scouts have told. PCs are told to gather a large force and go to the network of caves and finish of the orcs for good. 9. Force of Purple Dragon knights and PCs arrive near orc site. Orcs heard PCs coming long ago and attack in force. PCs get separated from knights as the large force closes around the knights. 10. PCs end up in caves, alone, where they work through each room until the come to a very large cavaren where the fight the BBEG who is a strong orc and who has been rallying the orcs all along. With this orcs death, the orcs will lack a leader and will no longer pose a threat to the people of Cormyr. 11. PCs rewarded handsomely for their troubles. Next campaign begins… |
| Capn Charlie01-29-04, 07:29 PM | Not bad. A bit linear, but for a first go all in all very nice. It beats the pants off my first adventure. It was a "orc hole" as well. Must be a rite of passage or something. One thing, in cormyr paperwork rules supreme. Expect a group of five or more pcs to have to fill out a "Royal Charter of Arms". Also they have to "peacebond" their weapons in peaceful areas. These don't add a lot to the game but give a little in depth detail to your world. Later on if you are not adverse to dungeon adventures, in Dungeon 88 there is an adventure called "The Door From Everywhere", it is in cormyr and kicked my game off into the mid levels nicely. |
| J. Grenemyer01-30-04, 02:21 AM | Hello Xidis, That looks like a pretty good outline to me. Very well thought out, with just the right mix of indoor and outdoor activity. I also like how you get the PC’s involved with the up and ups in Neverwinter and Arabel. It’s never to early to encourage them to work on their reputations! Plus, if they do exceedingly well, they might earn themselves an introduction at court and an audience with the Regent herself (which is a perfect lead-in for when your game gets to high level play). One point I did want to make was that it seems the word “orc” was used a lot. This indicates that, during the sum of the adventure, your players will be facing only one kind of creature. I would advise against this, and encourage you to throw in a bugbear or two, some goblins and the like, and maybe even a Zhentarim agent who is working to drive the Orcs into Cormyr. Keep in mind that the Zhentarim have a long history of finding or creating portals in the Storm Horns and Thunder Peaks, through which they send agents and any number of specially bread monsters to wreak havoc along Cormyr’s borders. I would also like to echo Capn Charlie’s point about Dungeon #88. The adventure, The Door from Everywhere is a great adventure. I used it so send my players on mini-adventures as far away as the High Forrest, the Anourach Desert, Cormanthor and Myth Drannor. It’s definitely worth the extra effort to get hold of this adventure if you can. Also, to add flavor, you might want to get your hands on Volo’s Guide to Cormyr if you don’t have it already. Into the Dragon’s Lair (by Sean Reynolds and set in Cormyr) is another excellent choice, particularly if you want to emphasize the effects of Cormyr’s recent war in your campaign. Feel free to ask any other questions, we’re all happy to answer. Good luck with your game! :D |
| Morka01-30-04, 10:17 AM | There is something I'm not sure with your campaign: in 2, you sent the PCs in the King's Forest to fight a little tribe and bring back the head of a Bbn 3 sub-chief. Nice. But in 10, they return to the King's Forest to fight an higher-level BBEG. When they first went in the King's Forest, why didn't they meet this BBEG??? If you want it a bit less linear, have them met an Hag Coven once in the wood, create some Mongrelmen slaves, create an orcish priest of Baghtru who want to take control of the tribe (if the current BBEG's priest is one of Ilneval...) |
| Xidis01-30-04, 10:53 PM | Morka- The first BBEG is local to Dhedluk, he is responsible for the raids on the village. The BBEG in 10 was the orc responsible for taking over the metropolis of Arabel. This BBEG will be found in the heart of the Kings Forest (or close to it) in a large network of caves along with many other orcs and cave creatures. This last area is the main area where all the orcs retreated from Arabel. As for the linearness (is that even a word?), I wanted to keep the campaign simple as I don't know what I am doing, and my players don't know what they are doing. A simple campaign will make life much easier and will allow the rules to be learned and me to develop a specific style. Thanks for comments! Oh yea, Morka, what are mongrelmen slaves, I couldn't find them in the FRCS or MM. Are they in a different book. And did you mean a hag covey? |
