GothicDan 07-18-06, 09:14 PM	Which is kind of why I'd like to see Sun Elven culture represented more as it has been in previous editions and in the books... I see Sun Elves as having more Lawful tendencies, and Moon Elves as having more Neutral tendencies - at least in respect to the other subraces, at least. And, heck, how do we know for sure who set that particular condition?
Faraer 07-18-06, 09:20 PM	Members of an organized government are going to be more lawfully inclined than the average citizen. To some extent, the lawful acts of the rulers support the more chaotic behaviour of the citizens.
Dialacton21 07-18-06, 09:23 PM	*possible spoiler* The Rule Blade has been seen wielded by the Isleve Miritar, at the end of the Last Mythal trilogy. But wasn't it with the Shrinshee? What's up with that? Did Isleve Miritar under go some test? Or did the Shrinshee just felt like coming back after the whole war thing?

The blades you speak of have nothing to do with the elven race as a whole.There have been thousands if not millions of the Tel'Quessir born on Toril that knew nothing of the Crownblade. The "ElfBlades" were created by a specific nation in a specific sphere for a specific time. The culture that arose after the Crown Wars had need of both the chaotic freedom of the elven spirit and the order of nationhood. G.Dan and Faraer hit the differences amid the subraces and social classes right on the head. Also notice that the main thing the Elves couldn't do is overcome thier inate chaos. Infighting and subterfuge were the main reasons they had to stage a "comeback" in the firstplace. Even now they quarrel amongst themselves about who has power over what. As to weilding Arcor Kerym, if there is one elf left who could pass it's test, it's Ilsevele. Reading the requirements of this Major Artifact makes the reasons for its alignment requirement easy to understand.

dragonheart 07-19-06, 12:08 AM	why is the crown blade LG? simple if you stop to think about it. you want it to pick a good ruler who will work for the betterment of the nation/race not jsut for their own power. Lawful because you want to be able to predict and understand their rulings (you may disagree but you still can follow the logic). if the ruler is caprisous (chaotic) then its like trying to build castles on a sandy seashore - you never know when teh next wave/change is going to wash everything you built away. this is really the same as why we say that america is a nation run by the rule of law (not that lots of folks dont' try to subjegate or by pass the laww but ...). Only when there are some bounds do you have the real freedom to work within them. (sadly this is the hardest lessonof growing up but also teh most important one). If all is chaos then all you have is anarchy - you can only have civilization when there are laws - so your ruler needs to be lawful even if most of the citizery isn't. (rather like a well run classroom - the teacher is lawful but the studnets aren't :D )
