| madoule07-25-04, 02:54 PM | Lo, Well Im going to run this module here pretty soon (city of the spider queen) --- to bad wizards hasn't take the "web" enchancements off this forum ;) Anyways, I want to assemble a party to take on this module, but one of my biggest problems is: sure they are told that there are problems... why should they care? What other motivation should I use to get the players to investigate the happinings of the underdark etc? Also What would a good party consit of for this module? I dont want them to get killed off right off the bat.. So I need a good mix that I can offer players sothey dont die :P Thxs |

| madoule07-25-04, 05:00 PM | Well, yes seeing that the module is alot of high level demons and undead.. well she is researching a spell, but Im sure that the party will want more than all clerics.. but im thinking 2 clerics needed or at least some one else who can cure- a paly.. for this one |
| tariff07-27-04, 04:30 PM | Im currently running this. My now group consists of (they began this adventure with most of them being lvl 10): 11th lvl Cleric 5th/6th lvl Rogue/Assassin 11th lvl Conjurer 11th lvl Fighter They did try for a while with a group consisting of 2 rogues, a barbarian/rogue and a fighter. Suffice to say they had trouble and used up alot of healing potions, and 2 of the group died. You definately need a cleric, a wizard would be handy also. |
| Ashaman8207-27-04, 08:31 PM | I am running CotSQ for my players who line up with Half Orc Barbarian/Sorceror/Dragon Disciple (cant remember the levels) Human 11lvl Druid Elven 11lvl Monk Dwarven 9lvl Cleric/ 2lvl Fighter The only times they have died so far is due to traps also setting of alarms has not helped them much. I am also quite worried about them as they are missing some form of arcane power which i feel will be necessary. What characters are chosen is not all that important as usually the spread of characters will alow for atleast a covering of all areas |
| Sariel Rahab07-29-04, 05:10 AM | In my campaign the core group consists of a necromancer/incantater/archmage, a cleric/divine diciple/hierophant, and a true barbarian. Both the wiz and the cleric got one unassosiated classlevel, thus nerfing their spell progress a bit, and the cleric looses out on a lot of turn undead, which is a bummer, but the barbarian is true to the core. The barbarian, being a dwarf with 18 (20) base constitution can soak up a hell of a lot of damage, as well deal an increadible amount. The necromancer has a lot of spells targeted at killing undead as do the cleric - they are both very good at picking out the handy spells. Usually these three are enough to punch through the opposition, even though the full group consists of 7 people (or more, sometimes). Appart from these there are a monk with vow of poverty (which is nifty for a monk), he can do some damage, sure, but what is best (for him) is that most foes have almost no chance of hitting him. So, you could do well going through the encounter with a wizard, a cleric and a barbarian. The barbarian probably would not have the best AC, so he will take alot of healing, but he can do more damage than most fighters. Increase the healing level by adding a second cleric and you'd be safe... or as safe as you can be in the underdark. Another thing is focusing on those fortitude saves. Any crossclassing or presige classing that will increase your fortitude save will (almost) be worth it. |
| Mumm-Ra07-29-04, 06:03 AM | You said the wizard has nonassociated class level. Archmage, incantatar and wizard all give full caster progression. I presume you are house ruling archmage to be like hierophant? Because normally an archmage gets full caster progression. |
| Sariel Rahab07-29-04, 06:55 PM | Nah, I just didn't list it. He got one level as sorcerer to be able to cast some spells that would otherwise be barred from him due to banned schools (not quite sure why that was so importaint, but who needs min/maxing anyway...). The cleric got one level as fighter, appart from hierophant... |
