How have other DMs ruled on the 'slay living' door that is trapped in the crypts and resetting? My players set it off last night - and one died. They resurfaced, licked their wounds, and are milling about again. Is the spell/trap always active? Does it have to be recast by a drow spellcaster? Does it reset after 24 hours? I could not find anything to point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Gilgamet, typically magical traps have automatic resets. A Destruction (7th level spell) trap is CR 8 and a Blade Barrier (6th level spell) trap is CR 7; both traps have automatic reset. It is safe to assume the CR7 Slay Living (5th level spell) trap automatically resets itself after one round has passed.

One round? My oh my! I usually allowed one minute reset time for magical traps, but I am not quite sure why.

How could a rogue or anyone try to disable the trap if it keeps on firing every round?

Maybe I should go check my DMG when I am back home...

Ha. Two players in my group were killed by that trap last weekend! Luckily my cleric has a Fort save from hell.

I've always assumed that if a magic trap is not consumed by one use then it is always present and resets automatically. As a DM I wouldn't make it fire off more than once per round. Traps are notorious for being a bit more deadly than their CR and so should it be. There's also something to be said for traps you just can't get rid of... leave it alone!

My party got wise and came back and shattered the door this weekend.
