| lowendz11305-31-05, 10:47 PM | I was wondering if it was possible to use the craft skill to create technological devices. I know there are a couple of classes geared around making that sort of stuff but it never actually goes into what you need to be able to do it. Anyone have any ideas as to how to work it? To clearify, I'm wondering about making things that you could call "gizmos" somthing you might expect a gnome to come up with. For example boots that have rollerskates that can pop out when you press a button, or steampowerd hourse, something along those lines. |

I required him to take Craft Wondrous Item, and made various devices use two to three craft skills each, depending on the item, with differing DCs depending on the amount of that skill required for the item. I also gave him a bonus for taking Craft Construct, on certain "gizmos" Craft (gears) was a major one used...this accounted for the actual gears, as well as the pulleys/belts used with them. After that I just made up stuff as he proposed it. Any time I felt the PC got a little too "gadget-centered" I just came up with urgent things that required the PC to leave town, letting the project gather dust while he gained a level or two, so that the item was less intrusive. |
