But what characters (if any) have you included from any of the other products, universes and bits of fiction in your Realms game? Or at the very least thought of including... I've had a red-robed Raistlin make the briefest of appearances in the Thayan Enclave of Waterdeep (simple planar travelling, go figure). I've also had the occasional orang-utan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Librarian_(Discworld)) running a library here and there (l-space, gotta love it). |
| MarkusTay6308-21-07, 03:41 PM | I haven't used any characters from other D&D worlds, but I do use races quite often. I just love the cannibalistic Halflings from Athas too much to pass them by. ;) I've also been using Hadozee, from Spelljammer, on ships, WAY BEFORE they ever thought of doing it officially in Stormwrack. I have used Cartoon characters as various NPCs, but I haven't done that since running Greyhawk. I ran that campaign tongue-in-cheek, so I had a pipe smoking, squinky-eyed, ex-sailor (with weird arms) running a bandit kingdom, and right nextdoor was the 'kingdom' of Bluto, with its large, fat angry tyrant Brutus. Stuff like that, but I've 'grown-up' since those days, and I don't use characters "as-is" anymore - I usually just base them on the person now. |

It's exceedingly rare for someone to run into a FR NPC, much less another settings. My players could hunt them out if they felt like it though, they just never have (and I haven't ever suggested that to them). |
| Narsil08-21-07, 05:03 PM | Hell, I only ever have it as a wee cameo that has absolutely no bearing on the plot beyond something for the players to point out and have a wee chuckle about. The Realms NPCs occupy the same sort of position in the hierarchy of things; cameos and one-off mentions. |
| MarkusTay6308-21-07, 05:51 PM | This thread does give me an intriguing idea for a scenario - suppose the NPCs had to attend a costume ball, and many of the folks in attendence were dressed like famous individuals, even to the point of using magics to make them appear like the real article? You could do cameos of everyone from Elric, Conan, Darth Maul, Legolas, and Voldemort! Then the PCs would have to figure who was the real deal, because they are secretly planning on killing all the nobles at the party. My bet is to ignore the soccer team that came as the 'Manshoon Clones'. :P |

| Dark Wizard08-21-07, 10:12 PM | Experts with feats like run and endurance and skill ranks in profession (footballer). |
| MarkusTay6308-21-07, 10:46 PM | I didn't use Rugby players, because I figured looking for the bloody group (with busted noses) would be WAY too easy. ;) |
