Crown of Horns [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-15-03, 01:23 PM I wasn't sure where to stick this thread, so I stuck it here.

I have come accross mention of the Crown of Horns a number of times in different sources/novels. (And on these boards.) I know it was an artifact of great evil, and it had something to do with a fairly dark period of Laeral's past.

Does anyone have any more specific information they could lay on me? Who created it? What exactly did it do to Laeral? Was it destroyed? etc.

It's been said Myrkul created it when he was a mortal. Khelben destroyed it, but during the ToT it was removed from his tower and is now in Skullport in the possesion of Nhyris D'Hothek, a yaun-ti lich.

It drove Laeral insane (more insane?) and caused her to be evil for awhile until Khelben destroyed it and removed the curse from her (which is also when they fell in love with each other).

While she was under the curse she was LE. "Those who remember the Laeral of old would be shocked to see her now. Mad eyes peer through unshorn locks turned snow white by rapid aging. Her musical voice is a gruesome cackle and her once-immaculate robes are little more then rags. Visitors to the Stronghold of the Nine are treated like intruders by Laeral and her ex-comrades."

There headquarters is still in the High Forest. Also during this time, is when she had Mara, but she isn't sure who Mara's father is.
