AJA 02-08-04, 11:38 AM	Google pulls up no references to a "www.crowswinds.net." There is, however, the Virtual Fantasy FR Indexes at http://www.prespos.crosswinds.net/FRSearch. The site's owner, Prespos, sent the following to the FR Mailing List a few days ago; PS. This is a snip from an email I sent today, if anyone really wants to know the details of the crash ... Also, not totally Realms-relevant, but does anyone know of good hosts for a Realms site? The reason that I'm asking this here is that the site is for you gals and guys : if there are certain hosts that would work better for the list as a whole, then pass along word, and I'll seriously consider them. There was a crosswinds crash on Feb 1. All the *online* files are gone. On the day before, I signed up for a premium account (that backs everything up) : somehow that wasn't registered (even though I got a receipt for a payment). After I finish the signup, everything is frozen, and I can't access my site. The next day the crash happens, and everything gets lost. They experienced a small amount of data loss, it just so happened that my site was one of the ones that were affected. To me, the disappearance of 30 megs of Realmslore is not a small loss, but they might see things differently. A couple of weeks back, I got a complaint from them that my site was eating up huge amounts of bandwith. Tried to do an ftp backup, but they scaled back my transfer limit with a few days notice. Something weird going on. This was a real drag, as I was working on the site pretty much all day for January. Half of what I did is safe on a secure Geocities site (novel indexes, mostly). The other half (the Virtual Fantasy pages : January changes) are gone for now. In short, I'm mostly recovered. I have partial backups (I work from college computers, so I don't have everything on a HD). It looks like part of the month of January has been lost. Do you know of anyone who downloaded the site during the month of January ? It might be a month or more until the site is back online. If earlier, or a url change, I'll send an email.
