| joshdw407-23-07, 10:53 AM | I'm running a campaign and still very new to the feel and history of FR. I have gone a little off course and have not really brought much of the core flavor of the Realms in. Currently the PC's are in Mosstone and involved in dealings with the fey. Both of which are not very detailed in any FR book I have ever found. I've had a chance to get an interesting story going because of this, but I want to see if anyone has ideas... So here's the story so far. I think the easiest way to tell the story is to highlight the antagonists and some of their plots. Then I will tell you where the PC’s are and a little of what they have done. Antagonist- Karbin Rahl Karbin started off as a experimental wizard, which was quite rare in Mosstone. He was fascinated with fey and had a peaceful and relatively happy life with his wife. He wrote an entire spellbook of spells while exploring the crossroads, pixie glens and anything fey related he could find. One day, while experimenting in his labratory, he discovered an odd fey presence directly in the city of Mosstone. This presence was a Zeitgist (CityScape Monster) and he became obsessed with studying it for the next couple years. Mosstone is a relatively sleepy town, so this particular fey has been dormant for ages. One day, while casting a particular spell, he disturbed the Zeitgist from its normal peaceful existence. The rampage that ensued was brief as the Zeitgist headed straight for the source of the trouble and trashed Karbin’s home in a few short blows. His wife died in that attack, but Karbin barely escaped and was expelled from Mosstone. Karbin has spent nearly 30 years since steaming, plotting and studying fey. He now, not only wants revenge on the Zeitgist, but to sap any power he possibly can from it. He also knows that a direct attack on the city’s “avatar” would be folly so he has conscripted the help of a particularly bitter group of fey called Joystealers (MM4). He taught them to hone their emotion based powers into the ability to control those emotioned and ultimately the mind of the person. He taught them the art of possession. Other Antagonists- That black moth thing as it is known in my group. He’s a fiendish half-fey, which is a combination that is horrible and detested by nearly all pure-blood fey. Suffice to say he has some issues. Though his name is not known (fey have no need for mortal names), he is an important member of the unseelie court. He was sent to investigate the disturbance at Mosstone many years ago and saw the potential for a coup in the Unseelie court using the wizard Karbin to create a big enough disturbance to bring the Queen of the court from her seat only momentarily. He has spent the years since “helping” Karbin and pushing his mind in just the right ways to achieve his goals. Lately he has been bored because Karbin has proven to be such a brilliant planner, so he has taken it upon himself to alert adventurers to some of the plans and string them along until he ultimately kills them. This fate is currently being played on the PC’s. Truthfully, I don’t know if I’ll bring the PC’s into this war amongst the Unseelie court, but it’s easier to play his character when his motivations are in place. The PC’s hate and love this guy for his “don’t care” teasing and annoyance of them. The Verdant Prince (MM4)- The Verdant Prince has been conscripted by the above character and currently leads an army of Redcaps (MM3) that are currently camped a few days outside of Mosstone. Karbin’s plan is to use the Redcap army to cause panic and confusion enough to allow the main force of Joystealers to infiltrate the city. Just the threat of an army, however, wouldn’t be enough to cause the Zeitgist to come out of dormancy after so long, so he plans on using the Joystealers to cause distrust, hate, and fighting amongst the factions of the city. If this brings out the Zeitgist, Karbin has prepared a spell which should drain the Zeitgist of all of it's fey essence. The PC’s- We are playing ourselves placed into the Forgotten Realms campaign setting after a heavy night of drinking. We survived for a few weeks and decided to get out of the stupid desert (Calimport) after making some bad enemies with some of the local slave traders. We decided to travel north. After arriving in Mosstone after a voyage from the south, they stayed for a week in this quaint little town just to experience the Festival of Wealdath. Near the completion of the festival there was a contest for any group that wanted to join. The objective was to retrieve an object in a nearby ruins that the Druids had placed. The first group to bring it back wins. The PC’s went in to discover that one of the groups had been murdered near their starting position and fought the murderers after some exploring. After they knocked out the first member, they heard “A scream that only seems to be in your mind and fades as if off into the distance” and decided to keep these people alive. They brought one of them back from unconsciousness to discover, of course, that they don’t remember the past couple of weeks. From this point on, there is a decent amount of filler such as: The PC’s get to know the Mosttone Knights (informal vigilante protectors of Mosstone who they fought during the festival), the Druids, and a bit of information on the Joystealer’s new ability. One of the PC’s was framed for murder using a death at the Joystealers’ hands and is currently hunted by the Mosstone Knights (he is wearing a hat of disguise and going by the name Ezekiel now). We started two affiliations called the Mirage Library and the Harbingers of Doom. They have also met a handful of friendly fey, and other NPC's who are completely reoccuring. Most of this stuff was just to get them attached to Mosstone and give them something to fight for, but not something I think everyone here wants fleshed out in detail. Now, currently, the redcaps are gaining strength and have nearly wiped out a nearby town so the PC’s have decided to do something about it before the trouble reaches Mosstone. They have gotten some meager help from the elves, druids, Mosstone Knights, out affiliations, and a few other townspeople willing to bear arms and are fighting the army of redcaps in a full scale war. This is where we are. I hope this wasn't too confusing. Now for you... suggestions? |
