I don't remember where I read this but it said that no two deities of the same pantheon can have the same portfolio... Does that mean exactly the same (the whole thing), or can on or two things be the same?

EX: Helm's Portfolio: gaurdians, protectors, protection; say my character became a deity could he have: gaurdians, songs, suffering?

hope you understand.

thanks

No two deities of the same pantheon can have the same portfolio, not even partly.

Is it not so that you can have a Demipower with the same portfolio as a god of greater power?

Or was that changed from 2nd to 3rd?

I think it's been changed in the way portfolios of each god are written, though I don't recall seeing an actual rule (about demigods, that is).

Anyway, a god can take up minor aspects of an existing portfolio, such as Red Knight having strategy in her portfolio as part of war that Tempus has.

Well I think I saw it in the old Faith and Avatars book. There (if I am not mistaken) it said that you could have the same portfolio as long as only one deity was lesser power or higher.

I'm pretty sure that's accurate, and as it should be even in 3E.

Gargos (Demigod): War, Skill-at-arms, Destruction, Plunder

Tempus (Greater God): War, Battle, Warriors

I wouldn't know for sure, but that seems like a misprint to me.

If you think about it in the sense of historical pantheons it makes more sense. The Greeks didn't have gods that preached the same things, they all had their specific things that they reigned over. Besids, most of the FR gods are based on historical ones. Tyr is Norse, Loviatar is Finnish, Silvanus is Celtic, etc.

No misprint there... Tempus actually took the portfolio of war away from Garagos when the two were incorporated into the same (Faerunian) pantheon, thus reducing Garagos from Greater power to merely a demigod.

Word is that he still holds a grudge.

AFAIK, the line in the FRCS saysing that two deities can not share the same portfolio is an error.

It should say the same as in 2e: When two deities share the same portfolio, only one of them can rise higher than the status of a demigod.

Actually it's a particular funny error. Since it says that no two beings in the same pantheon can share the same portfolio on page 233 and then only two pages farther on page 235 lists Garagos and Tempus as two beings within the same pantheon sharing the same portfolio
