I have a question.

How does one become a demigod?

Azuth for example, ive seen places that say people have risen to such power they became demigods...what is that level and how did they do it? and how would a PC reach that level of power?
Karsus for another. So if all of you would be ever so kind as to end my confusion.

There are no hard rules for divine ascension. Deities&Demigods gives a couple of suggestions, but in the end it only says "it's up to the DM to create a version which fits the best into his world"

In the FR so far all ascensions have been with divine help of an already existing deity (open or hidden).

E.G: Azuth had help of Mystra, Finder had the help of Tymora and even Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul had the help of Jergal when they defeated the demigod Borem (which was long before Jergal finally gifted them with his own divinity because he was bored of his power)

I think the two examples of how people became gods in the FR are by patronage or killing a divine being. There are many stories, such as Azuth, the Red Knight, Velsharoon, and a few others who were given the power and raised up by a patron god who feels that he/she would get more power if there was an active god under him to work "the cause", while he siphoned energy off that person. That's one reason why Sune is a major power. Look at how many gods are under her.

Uthgardt did defeat divine beings and became one himself. Also, Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul did run around the multiverse and conquer minor divine beings and steal their "essence".

There is that dragon of Chondath who united his nation, and then faked his own death to look like a glorious hero. It started a hero cult for him and caused his assension to godhood.

When and which divine being did he defeat?

According to Powers&Pantheons he was a fierce and strong warrior, who was ascended to divinity by his patron Tempus after taking mortal wound during a battle with a frost giant.

Bane, Bhaal and Myrkul didn't run around the multiverse conquering divine beings. They defeat one divine being, the demigod Borem of the Lake of Boiling Mud. But even with this Faiths&Pantheons revealed us that they were manipulated by Jergal long before they finally met him and it was Jergal who made sure that a certain artifact (and key point in defeating Borem) found it's way into their hands.

The various totem creatures were the ones that he defeated. That's why they served him. I seem to recall that this was how they entered the whole Uthgardt religion. Perhaps I am wrong about this? Or perhaps it changed from 1E?

OK....so the evil trio only defeated Borem. It keeps turning out that I am really only working what I thought I recalled about that whole thing. I remember reading the Ruins of Adventure module (and playing the game), but haven't read it in many years. I keep getting corrected about all of that. Doh! I should look up a few more sources on those three becoming gods before I mention them again.
